4 TETHERED TO JESUS “The daring young man on the flying trapeze … ” Those lyrics to a popular 19th- century song come to mind when I picture aerial artists. A performer called the flyer leaps off a bar, swings a cou- ple of times from a trapeze, then lets go to sail through the air before connecting with another swinging performer, the catcher. Life sometimes seems like a circus act, though we don’t always feel so daring. Especially during transitions, we often must let go of one thing before we’re secure with another. We may feel as if we’re flailing through the air during a move or job change, while awaiting medical test results or just walking along the path of faith. Thankfully, Jesus is our dependable “catcher.” As we sail through life, wondering whether there’s a safety net, we needn’t worry about our ability to connect with and cling to Jesus. Instead, He catches us and holds on for dear life — our earthly life and our heavenly one. ~Heidi Mann The NEWSLETTER Newsletter, April 2015 “In the Spring, I have counted 136 different kinds of weather inside of 24 hours.” ~Mark Twain W W WEEKLY EEKLY EEKLY EEKLY C C CALENDAR ALENDAR ALENDAR ALENDAR -Trinity Lutheran Church and Faribault Lutheran School Staff - Rev. Looking forward to CALL DAY! Fourth year students will learn their first call assignments the end of this month. To watch the call day activities and call assignments on April 29, 2015, go to callday.csl.edu at 7:00 p.m. Central Time.

LUTHERAN WITNESS SUBSCRIPTIONS Lutheran Witness renewals for the 2015-2016 sub-scription year are now being taken, with a deadline of Sunday, May 24, 2015.

Subscription Profile New subscriptions begin August 2015—June/July issue is combined; (11) magazines mailed out in a subscription year.

2015 TLW Price $19.26 cost per yearly subscription. Checks should be made payable to Trinity Lutheran Church with a note on the Memo Line Lutheran Witness. Contact the church office to subscribe and submit payment.

On April 9 the J.O.Y. Group met in the Trinity West parking lot for a trip to the Plymouth Play-house. We saw a show called “Late Nite Cate-chism.” It brought back memories of school in the 50’s and 60’s, particularly in faith-based schools. There was more discipline and respect for teachers. Your parents paid tuition for you to attend, so you never complained. The show was very funny and had a lot of audience participation. We stopped at the Lakeville Pizza Ranch on the way back, and we all left there full and tired from a fun-filled day.

Your friend in Christ, Loreen Schultz

At the J.O.Y. sponsored Lenten Supper on Feb-ruary 25, a total of $287 was made. Coffee servers for the Fellowship Hall cost $187, and the remain-ing $100 was donated to the Trinity Radio Club.

J.O.Y. Group and all church members are invited to our May 7 outing. We will be going to The Inn at Shattuck-St. Mary’s for a lunch buffet of assorted sandwiches, soup, fruit, dessert, and drink. Also we will get a tour of the new facility they just opened. Then we will go to the Minnesota State Academy for the Deaf to tour the Bahl Museum and much more. The cost is $11.00 (make checks payable to Marcy Matthies). Meet in the church parking lot by 10:45 a.m. We will carpool. Sign up by April 30 at the Information Center as a count is needed.

The Human Care Ministry Team would like to update our list of Trinity members who are willing to help our fellow members. Volunteers are needed to drive our members to medical appointments and/or provide and deliver meals to those in need or assis-tance. If you are able to do so or are willing to con-tinue such work, please signup on the Human Care Volunteer sheet at the Information Center.

Collection for Feed My Starving Chil-dren: Once again, we are collecting contri-butions for Feed My Starving Children, a

Minnesota based Christian nonprofit food distributor. Containers which hold $14.00 in quarters will be available at the Information Center. Take one home and fill it with your spare quarters. Return to Marian Hagel or place in the offering plates. “We can all make a difference in the lives of others in need, because it is the most simple of gestures that make the most significant of differences.”

Stewardship Every Sunday: John 10:11-18 Among the many names given to Jesus is “the good shepherd” as described in this section of the Gospel of John. His job as a shepherd is to “lay down my life for the sheep.” Because He has complete knowl-edge of all of us, and “my sheep know me,” there is an intimate relationship between Him and His sheep, all of us who believe in Him. But there is also a part of Him and a part of our responsibility of all that God has given to us, that is also commanded to reach out. As Jesus says, “I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also.” A good shepherd uses all the resources at hand for the bene-fit of the sheep. Similarly, all our resources are given to make a living, which is true, but also, for Chris-tians to employ in bringing in the “other sheep.” We look to Jesus as our model for obedience and uncon-ditional love, and we, in turn, are to be models for others “not of this sheep pen.”

ALLINA Health: Faribault Area Hospice is sponsoring various Adult Grief Support Groups for both men and women. Anyone who has experienced a loss through death is welcome to at-

tend these free meetings. Programs are led by a grief counselor and trained volunteers. If you prefer to receive support individually, a grief counselor is available. For more information and to register call 507-332-4837.

Mother’s Day Collection for Ruth’s House and Hope Center

In order to help those in need, the Human Care Ministry Team is again conducting a collection and door offering on Mother’s Day weekend, May 9 & 10 for Ruth’s House, the non-profit shelter and tran-sitional housing facility for women and children here in Faribault and the Hope Center, which offers direct support to victims of violence in Rice County, collaborative support to other organizations that serve victims, and educational support to the entire community. Monetary donations can be placed in door offer-ing containers that will be on the worship carts in the narthex that weekend. Checks can be made pay-able to Ruth’s House or Hope Center. In addition, the following items are needed and may be placed in the containers by the narthex doors on Mother’s Day weekend: Ruth's House needs duct tape, 13 gallon garbage bags, sanitizing wipes, rubber spatulas (all sizes), 66 qt. clear plastic bins with lids, clear plastic under bed bins with lids, diapers (sz. 3T,4T,6T), pull-ups (sz. 4,5,6), embroidery floss for crafts, and long curtain panels for bedroom windows. Ruth's House is also collecting used toner and printer cartridges. The Hope Center “Wish List”: gas cards, taxi vouchers, grocery cards, 8 ½ X 11 white paper, pur-ple paper, blue paper, teal paper, purple ribbons, Kleenex, Lysol cleaning supplies, and garbage bags. Thank you for remembering these mothers and children on Mother’s Day!

The Adopt-a-Highway Trinity Radio Club group will meet for their last pick up day on Satur-day, May 23, from 7-9:00 a.m. For more informa-tion, please call Becky Spitzack at 507-210-5565.
