Dear friends,
Our staff retreat three weeks ago was a time of great grace. We prayed. We did evaluations. We took individual time with each person to ask: “How can I be a better person for you to work with.” And we measured progress since last summer. Here is some of the progress:
PASTORAL: Pastoral Council led parish self-evaluation (in terms of our Mission Statement), and set new focuses great participation in March for Peace, and commitment to pay sustained attention to local gang problem more cooperation with other Salinas parishes for liturgy planning and minister training more attendance: daily Masses (7 a.m., 12:15 p.m., and Latin) inside of church has become more tranquil better working relationship between parish & school visits from 2 seminarians 2 parishioners ask to go to seminary for priesthood First Friday processions for peace Schola Cantorum (choir singing traditional church music) Youth Group grows; has first major fundraiser some wills come in; allow us to continue services GROUNDS & FACILITIES: new sign in front of church new hall windows, bathrooms, and interior paint hall kitchen improved church stained glass windows restored money raised for improved church lighting (still to come) church choir loft improved to store liturgical items church bathrooms much cleaner on weekends beautiful new church doors improved ongoing maintenance of church & school new floors in much of 14 Stone St. much greater use of Muller building (Main St.), with permanent use plan almost done
It’s been one great year … with more to come shortly. Thanks for being a great parish!

Hace tres semanas nuestro retiro del personal fue una época de gran gracia. Rezamos. Hicimos evalua-ciones. Nos tomó un tiempo individual con cada persona la pregunta: “¿Cómo puedo ser una major persona para que usted pueda trabajar?”. Y medimos el progreso desde el verano pasado. Aquí hay algunos de los avances:
PASTORAL: El Concilio pastoral dirigió una auto-evaluación para nuestra parroquia (en fun ción de nuestra Declaración de Objetivos), y establecer nuevas prioridades. La gran participación en la Marcha para la Paz, y el compromise para encarar el problema de las pandillas locales Una mayor cooperación con otras parroquias de Salinas para la planificación de liturgia y el entrenamiento de ministros más asistencia: durante las Misas diarias (7 a.m., 12:15 p.m., y latín) mas tranquilidad dentro de la iglesia una major relación de trabajo entre la parroquia y la escuela la visita de 2 seminaristas 2 feligreses piden ir al seminario para el sacerdocio procesiones el primer viernes por la paz Schola Cantorum (el coro que canta música tradicional para la iglesia) expansion del grupo de jóvenes, y su primera actividad para recaudar fondos la recepcion de algunos testamentos, que nos permiten continuar con servicios
TERRANO Y INSTALACIONES: nuevo letrero frente a la iglesia nuevas ventanas en el salón, pintura interior y exterior de los baños mejoras para la cocina del salón restauracion de los vitrales de la iglesia dinero recaudado para mejorar la iluminación para la iglesia (aún por llegar) el desván del coro a mejorado para guarder objetos litúrgicos los baños de la iglesia están mucho más limpios los fines de semana puertas nuevas y hermosas para la iglesia mejoramiento del mantenimiento continuo de la iglesia y la escuela pisos nuevos en la calle 14 Stone un magnifico uso del edificio Muller (calle Main St.), con un plan permanente dé uso que casi está hecho
Ha sido un gran año … con más por venir en breve. ¡Gracias por ser una parroquia maravillosa!

THE QUEEN OF HEAVEN CEMETERY Holds a Mass in memory of the faithful departed on the first Saturday of each month at 10:00 AM. Priests of Sacred Heart and Madonna del Sasso take turns to celebrate this Mass. Sacred Heart’s turn will be on August 7. For more info, please call 449-5890.

THE RITE OF CHRISTIAN INITIATION (RCIA) - is now accepting applications for those interested adults who would like to learn more about the Catholic faith or receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation or First Holy Communion. CAR WASH --- HOMELESS OUTREACH MINISTRY - Sunday, July 25, there will be a car wash at the 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Masses only. Our homeless friends of our parish will be in-volved in washing the cars with supervision. Donation of $5.00. Wash will be located on the Sacred Heart School grounds. Come support the cause!
SACRED HEART RUMMAGE SALE - Saturday, July 31 and Sunday, August 1, 2010, 8:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m., in the Parish Hall. Now is the time to clean out your closets, cupboards, etc. You may bring donated items to the Parish Hall on Thursday, July 29 and Friday, July 30 from 12:00 to 7:00 p.m. We also need volunteers to help set-up on Thursday and Friday, and on Sun-day to help clean-up. Please call the Parish Office at 424-1959 for more information. Proceeds benefit our Parish Charities Fund.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION (Bilingual Confessions): Friday: 12:15 pm; Friday: 6:00 pm Penance service (Please arrive on time to share the opening rite.) BAPTISM (Children): Please come to the Parish Office (with a copy of your child’s birth certificate) to receive information about preparation and scheduling. MARRIAGE: Preparation should begin at least 6 months in advance. Please call the Parish Office during office hours for an appointment with the priest.
