Thank you also to our Madrinas/Padrinos Group for spreading the good news about St. Bernard Catholic School and selling Krispy Kreme Donuts, and to our Walk-A-Thon Committee for advertising the Walk-A-Thon! As I stated in an email sent last Thursday, Mrs. Magaña will be out for the next four to six weeks. Please welcome Mr. Harding, who will be substituting in Grade 6 during her absence. Mr. Harding comes to us with a Masters Degree and five years experience in Middle School and High School. We are fortunate that he is available to fill in during Mrs. Magaña’s absence, and welcome him to St. Bernard Catholic School. We will also have two more faces around St. Bernard Catholic School: Ms. Colleen McLoughlin will begin Monday as our Recess and Lunch Aide on Monday, Wednesday, and Frida,y and Ms. Sadie Delman who will be assisting Ms. Casanova in Grade 2 as a volunteer aide as she studies to become a teacher. Both Ms. McLoughlin and Ms. Delman are pursuing careers in education. On Wednesday, October 15, 22, and 29 we will be holding our annual Parent Conferences for Grades K-8 (TK takes place in January). Please make sure to arrive on time, so that all parents may receive the time allotted. At these conferences, you will receive or view your child’s progress report for Trimester 1. In Grades 5-8, the conferences will be student led as part of our mission to empower students to own their own learning. In Grades K-4, the teachers will be reviewing the new Standardized Report Card with each parent. As our philosophy states, we educate the whole child and so there will be three parts to the conference: Academics, Faith Formation and Service, along with a discussion of Work Habits, Behavior and Attendance and Tardies all of which play a part in a child’s academic and personal growth. I want to thank our Room Parents for organizing the food and snacks for these long days for your children’s teachers. Please know that it is optional, and that you are not required to participate in providing these items. I know the staff will be grateful for any and all contributions- even simply a prayer for the successful communication with the primary educators of the students they teach. Please continue to keep in your prayers the Santos children (John Paul-K and Pauline-5, and older brother) as they mourn the loss of their father, and Mrs. Santos, who mourns the loss of her husband. Also, please keep in your prayers the Magaña Family. God Bless, Mrs. Samaniego
