Rock and ride troubleTHE MURWILLUMBAH Agricultural Show has been declared another roaring success after thousands of locals and visitors converged on the iconic showgrounds.

Tweed Heads Police said the event was problem free with offi cers carrying out several patrols across the weekend.

The only report we received was for two missing children, which were quickly found and reunited with their parents, the duty offi cer at Tweed Heads told The Weekly.

While it was all fun and games for show goers, several parents have complained about the Rock and Roll

Ride this year - which sent Facebook into a frenzy.

According to social media posts a local mother, whose name has been withheld, complained about the spinning ride after her daughter was allegedly injured.

She has appealed for witnesses to come forward with any information.

A witness told The Weekly the girl was thrown around while she was on the ride, until several people screamed for the ride to stop.

Witnesses said the girl had received some injuries and she was taken to the St Johns Ambulance tent for assessment.

However, specifi cs around the cause of the injury were unknown at the time of print.

One parent told The Weekly she

felt uneasy about the ride and she

immediately pulled her children off.

I saw the girl get those injuries and

the attitude and response from the

Rock n Roll operators was terrible,

she said.

The girl looked pretty shook up and

I took my kids off straight away.

The Facebook post has since

resulted in more than 80 comments

from locals expressing their concerns.

QUEENSLAND AIRPORTS Limited (QAL) has pulled out the big guns to help with the Gold Coast Airport expansion plans by promoting Marion Charlton to chief operating offi cer.

QAL chief executive Chris Mills, said Mrs Charlton was looking to the future of the Gold Coast Airport with the Commonwealth Games fi rmly in her sights.

We are looking to the future, and with our airport expansion plans and the Commonwealth Games in 2018 there is no-one with more experience in this fi eld, Mr Mills said.

Marion knows fi rst-hand what we will need for 2018, having worked in the Atlanta and Sydney airports during the 1996 and 2000 Olympics, and she was in Glasgow during the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Mrs Charlton has been with Gold Coast Airport for 11 years and oversaw the most recent airport terminal expansion which was completed in 2010.

Meanwhile, Tweed residents protests, over the controversial planned expansion, have gained momentum.

The Gold Coast Airport is seeking fi nal approval from the Federal Government to expand its operations through two major developments, Project Lift and an Instrument Landing System (ILS).

The proposed expansion plan has already attracted more than 6500 submissions, mostly opposing the plans, which is the greatest number of submissions ever made to a major development plan of any airport in Australia.

Greens candidate for Richmond, Dawn Walker, said she had invited Mrs Charlton

to meet with concerned residents and community groups regarding the proposed airport expansion.

This shows the degree of community interest in this development and the impact it will have on the Tweed through increased noise from jet aircraft and the loss of signifi cant vegetation and fi sheries habitat, Mrs Walker said.

Project Lift also attracted signifi cant objections, particularly because of its impact on the Tweed environment and surrounding waterways, including the proposed realignment of Coolangatta Creek.

The airport needs to take into consideration the importance of the Tweed environment and fi sheries habitat for the long term survival of the regions fi shing and tourism industry.

The Weekly attempted to contact Mrs Charlton for an interview and is awaiting her call.
