Ms. Carrie’s Classroom News –

Week of October 14th

The Buckner Fanning School at Mission Springs is a school where every

student matters and every moment counts.

“Providing an exemplary education grounded in faith and focused on the future.”

“Above all, love each other deeply.” 1Peter 4:8

Theme: Fall Time

Letter: G Number: 4 Shape: Rectangle

Bible Verse: “I am the Good Shepherd.” John 10:11

Christian Education:

*We learned about what happened next to Joseph. *We went to Pre-K Chapel to sing Praise songs with Pre-K 4!

Circle Time:

*We learned about Fall. *We practiced the days of the week, the months of the year, and our birthdays. Kessler, Reyna, Toby and Cooper know their birthdays! Please continue to practice birthdays at home. *We learned how to interrupt politely by singing our Core Knowledge Social Skills song. *We are continuing to practice responsibility, our virtue for the month of October. Please help your child practice responsibility at home. *We read a story about being grumpy; then we took “grumpy face” pictures!

Language Arts/Fine Motor Skills:

* We met Mr. G. He gets into trouble with his gooey gum! * We made G’s with play dough. * We learned how to print a capital G. * We thought of 43 words that begin with G! Next week we will be reviewing the letters we have learned so far. * We painted a capital G with gold glitter paint! * We practiced making little drops of glue – “dot, dot, dot; not a lot”! * We glued gumballs on a capital G. * We colored pictures that begin with G; we had to listen to the beginning sound of each picture.

STEAM:

* We learned about the number 4 and practiced counting 4 golf balls. * We learned about the rectangle shape. * We made a “Fall Four” by counting and putting 4 fall stickers on a 4. * We sorted leaves by shape and then by color. * We practiced counting 1 - 4 goldfish. The children had to put the correct number of goldfish in each bowl. Then we ate the goldfish! * We graphed our favorite kind of grapes. Ask your child about our graph. * We learned about geoblocks and geoboards, math tools. * We made shapes with our bodies! * Our “Storytime STEAM Challenge” this week was to make a bed that holds the most zoo animals after reading Good Night, Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann. We used craft sticks and blocks to make the beds.

Art: * We painted with golf balls! We mixed blue and yellow to make the color green! Cooking:

* We made “giraffes” from Nutter Butter cookies! Yum! Reminders: **Now that the cooler weather has arrived, please make sure you have the required outerwear: “Solid navy fleece, sweater or fleece-lined rain jacket.” Also, please make sure the outerwear is labeled with your child’s name. One more thing - just a reminder that we need to wear Velcro shoes to school. *Oct. 18 – Tonight! Fall Festival from 5:00-7:30 We always have a lot of fun; please join us! Tickets (wristbands) are on sale now through October 18 for $15. An adult ticket is free with the purchase of a child’s ticket! Food and drinks will also be available for purchase.

*Oct. 21, 22, 23 – Next week - Noon dismissal for Parent Conferences – Thank you for signing up. You will get an email reminder about the date and time. I’m looking forward to meeting with you about your beautiful children. **Note: since we will be dismissing at noon, we will not eat lunch here; instead, we will eat our snacks at our usual lunchtime. So please send a snack, but not a lunch unless your child will be attending After Care.

*Oct. 24 – Next Thursday - Fall Musical @ 6:30 – our children will be performing in this. Please mark the date. You won’t want to miss it! Dinner (pizza) will be served at 5:30, free of charge. An RSVP is required for the dinner. If you will not be here for the

dinner, please arrive in the gym by 6:15. I will be there at that time to meet your children and stay with them until our performance begins. After our song, please meet me in the gym to pick up your child, then return to enjoy the rest of the show.

*Oct. 25-Nov. 8 – Read-a-thon – Information will be going home about this fundraiser.

*Oct. 28 – Pumpkins are due for the contest if you decide to participate.

*Oct. 28 – Picture Retakes – Please return your picture packet if you would like your child to retake their picture.

*Oct. 31 - Read Around the School from 2-3 - we get to dress up as a storybook character (no weapons allowed). Please have your children come to school dressed in their costumes, but make sure they can manipulate them so they will be able to go to the bathroom during the day. They will visit the other classrooms to listen to stories beginning at 2:00. Parents are invited! Please come and walk your child around to the different classrooms!
