FOURTH SUNDAYAFTER PENTECOST
Now is the acceptable time; now isthe day of salvation! Now we are inthe storm, the boat almost swamped;but Jesus is here now, and when we call him, he will calm the storm.Even the wind and waves listen to him as they would to their creator.We also listen to him and are called to believe in the power of God’sword in him, a power greater than all that we fear.
IN-PERSON WORSHIPSunday, June 20
In-Person Indoor Worship will beSunday at 10:00 a.m. Masks are nolonger required for indoor worship. Wewill however, at least for the moment, continue to social distance andrefrain from indoor singing. Communion will be available everySunday.
We encourage those who have not been fully vaccinated to continueto wear masks and that even those who have been fully vaccinatedconsider wearing a mask, particularly when entering and exitingworship, for the sake of those who have not been vaccinated.

CHURCH NEWSMEN'S SOCK DRIVE In June we are using the Blessing Box bin tocollect new and gently used men’s socks tobe given to Opportunity House. For the firstthree weeks of June the bin we be locatedinside the portico entrance. On June 27, thecollection bin will in the Narthex.
MY FATHER'S HOUSEThank you to everyone whovolunteered to help with the meals nextweek. All needed items have beencovered. Contributions are still beingaccepted to help with this vital ministry.
COMMUNITY NEWS CCM FOOD PANTRY
As we move into summer, lots of folks finally aregetting away on vacations, etc. Churches areplanning VBS and other special summer activities. Itis easy to forget about CCM and other localministries. But we are still here, and still serving a lot
of folks in crisis. While our numbers are down a lot from a year ago,our Crisis Center drive-through pantry still is serving an average ofabout 110 households a week. Many of these are senior adults orindividuals on disability who are not receiving the food stamp bonuseslike families with children. So, please consider doing some specialfood drives for CCM this summer. Let me know if you have anyquestions or any ways we can support you.
Donations can be dropped by the church during office hours. Pull upunder the Portico and call the office. 704-786-0166
Our current big needs are:Peanut butter & jellyCanned carrots, peas, potatoes and mixed vegetablesDiced tomatoes
Baked beans (pork & beans)Any dried beansToilet paper
As always, we especially seek low sodium items, no-added-sugaritems, and whole grain items.

Arbol de VidaNorth Durham
Led by Pastor German Santana,this community is a Spanish-speaking gathering of believersanchored in Word & Sacramentthat began in early 2017 and ismade up of as many children asadults. They currently findenergy in their monthly women’sbrunch and community caresevents like the backpackprogram. Before the pandemic,they met on Sundays inside thebuilding of Our Savior’s,Durham.

Christ's BelovedCommunity
Winston-SalemLed by Pastor ChantalMcKinney, Christ’s BelovedCommunity (CBC) began as aministry of streets in 2015. Theministry has grown and nowmeets at a permanent home inSouth Winston-Salem. Despitehaving a building, their heart isstill beating for those whoexperience systemic injustice,struggle with the realities ofpoverty, and live in a culture offear. CBC has the only bilingualfood pantry in the city andprovides distribution days threetimes a month. This communityis fully bilingual and bi-denominational—ELCA andEpiscopal. The communitymeets for a meal and worshipeach Sunday morning and has aWednesday evening ministrycalled The Largest Table.

The DwellingWinston-Salem
Begun in February 2020, thisministry walks alongside personsexperiencing homelessness withtwo main foci: spiritual care andshowers. This ministry isanchored in City with Dwellings,a non-profit serving thecommunity experiencinghomeless, providing TheDwelling with office space,Sunday morning worship space,and mid-week chapel/prayerspace. Additionally, The Dwellingprovides a three-shower mobileshower unit that will serve thecommunity. The unit doubles thepublic shower access indowntown Winston-Salem. Thisfederated ELCA/Moravianministry is led by Pastor EmilyNorris and Pastor Tobi Fleck.

EmmausWest Charlotte
In May 2017, Emmaus began inWest Charlotte led by the Rev.Dr. Shanitria Cuthbertson. Thisministry is a Word & Sacramentcommunity deeply embedded inthe West Charlotte communityespecially in the educationsystem. Anchored in mentoringAfrican-American students, usingarts for expression, andCommunity Cares events,Emmaus also engages disciplesin their faith through Tuesdaynight Bible study. They gather forworship each Sunday whengospel music, Sacrament, andpowerful preaching allow for anencounter with thetransformative love of JesusChrist.

Living WatersCherokee
Begun in 1985, this community ison the Qualla Boundary and isan embodiment of the gospelwith the people of the EasternBand of Cherokee tribe. Thesignature ministry of LivingWaters is their food pantry andresource center. Serving nearly40,000 individuals a yearthrough its feeding ministries, itaddresses the immediate needthat all might be fed. Additionally,Living Waters serves as a placefor job placement, educationconnection, seniors support, andmore. The community worshipson Wednesdays and Sundaysblending Cherokee cultureincluding beginning each Sundaywith a morning song to greet theday sung in Cherokee. Thisministry is led by Pastor JackRussell and Lisa Russell.

South DurhamConnections
Begun November 2018, SouthDurham Connections is acommunity committed toaddressing all the ways thatpeople are hungry: physically,spiritually, emotionally,relationally, and intellectually.This community’s signatureministry is the Parktown FoodHub (the Hub) and the Word &Sacrament community will bedeveloped as the food ministrygrows. This community is led byPastor Sharon Schulze.

REFLECTIONS FROM ST. JAMES' VOTING MEMBER,JOSEPH BEASLEY
In addition to the business of electing a bishop to lead our NC Synodand approving a budget, the 2021 NC Synod Assembly also includedpresentations that reminded me and other attendees of how our synodis a network of Lutheran churches whose collaborative ministriesreach across North Carolina beyond Concord and Cabarrus County.
Our NC Synod is helping produce the next generation of pastors and
leaders by actively supporting the Lutheran Theological SouthernSeminary and Lenoir Rhyne University. I heard leaders of familiar faithcenters and youth camps like Lutheridge in Arden, NC and CampAgape in Fuquay Varina and Kure Beach, NC speak on how theirprograms continue to provide faith formation opportunities inbeautiful environments.
Finally, I learned about new efforts like All Races One Church -- adeveloping initiative that will support congregations of color within oursynod. I encourage all members and friends of our congregation tolearn more about these works that we at St. James support throughthe NC Synod:
