6th ANNUAL GRADUATION CEREMONY
Fort William First Nation Chief and Council would like to
honour all Band Members that have graduated from Grade
8, 12, GED and Post Secondary educations for the
2015 year. We are extending an
invitation to all graduating band members to a feast August
10th, 2014 Symposium to commence at 5:00PM. The
ceremony will be held at the Community Hall, all students
in attendance will be honored with a gift from our Chief
and Council. Attendance is mandatory; FWFN will require
documentation for proof of graduation.

Program Award Descriptions: The Fort William First Nation Education Award program has been created as an incentive and reward for students who are graduating from a respective award category. More information on each category is available. The Casino Rama Education awards are separate from the regular FWFN graduating awards.
Program Award Eligibility: Member of the Fort William First Nation. Selection is based primarily on academic excellence. Awards will be given

Fabian Bannon Fabian Bannon joined True Grit Consulting Limited’s team in June 2015 as a Survey Technician. Fabian came to True Grit with a broad range of survey experience and is an excellent addition to our team. He is very motivated, organized and ambitious. Fabian is currently working on various survey projects for the Company including one in Mishkeegogamang Ojibway First Nation. Some of Fabian’s responsibilities include: performing legal surveys for the purpose of creating survey plans, establishing new property limits or re-establishing existing property limits; operating survey equipment including total stations, data collectors, global position system (GPS) receivers, precise levels and other field equipment; and performing and checking mathematical computations (calculating angles and distances to re-establish or set new boundary corners, level note reductions, traverse closures) utilizing calculators, data collectors and computer programs to properly complete the surveys and assess the accuracy of field measurements and existing surveys. We wish Fabian much success in his new position.

True Grit Consulting Limited, partner of Fort William First Nation (Oshki Aki LP) welcomed Fort William First Nation member Scott Michon to the team in May 2015 as an Environmental Technician. Scott is a graduate of Confederation College Applied Arts and Technology’s Environmental Technician program (2014). He is an integral part of True Grit’s team and is known for his enthusiastic attitude and team spirit. Currently Scott is working in Attawapiskat First Nation on a large remediation project. Some of Scott’s responsibilities are: completing groundwater, surface water, and soil monitoring and sampling; operating various types of equipment including hand augers, samplers, filters, and field meters; supervising field investigation programs including hand auguring, test pitting, borehole drilling, and monitoring well installations; documenting field conditions, key site features, field testing results, and project progress to facilitate the completion of an environmental report; and tabulating field and laboratory data into a spreadsheet and reports, comparing results to applicable environmental criteria or standards. We wish Scott the very best in his new career with True Grit!
FWFN Snack Program The Education Department is in the initial stages of implementing a grab and go snack bag for students from JK to Grade 12. The funding is not 100% secure but we are in the preparation stages for the program.
If your child is registered they will receive a snack bag prepared in accordance with Canada’s Food Guide, and program guidelines. We hope to have this program start the first week of school.
Shayla and another student will be going door to door in the community to give a brief explanation and to help you complete the registration forms. Only children registered will be able to participate.

St. Anne's - 16th Sunday - July 19, 2015 1st Reading: Jeremiah 23:1-6. In this reading the shepherds who neglected the flock are severely indicted by God. At the same time God promises to send shepherds who will care about his sheep. 2nd Reading: Ephesians 2:13-18. By his death Christ broke down the wall that divided Jews from gentiles, and he united all peoples as children of the one Father. Gospel Mark 6:30-34. In this Gospel we see the care of Christ for his apostles as well as his compassion for the people who were "like sheep without a shepherd". Gospel Challenge: In today's Gospel, people follow Jesus everywhere, to listen to his wisdom, to be healed of their sicknesses, and freed from their demons. There are so many searching people in the world today, hungering for instruction, good people are looking for direction. They may be parents who are sick with grief over the future of a troubled child; a man stripped of his dignity due to unemployment; a woman facing a pregnancy alone; elderly people who can feel the surge of life leave their declining bodies; people who are angry and confused because they believe that the Church is no longer dependable. They are people looking for answers and for meaning. They are like sheep without a shepherd, and Jesus looks to us to shepherd them.
