I’m Mrs Chilton and I am very excited to be working with our new Year 7
students! My main role as their Head of Year will focus around attainment and
standards and to ensure that all students are making progress across
our knowledge-rich curriculum and supporting them in their learning. I
believe that with guidance and support, all students can be successful through
hard work, resilience and determination.
As Director of Transition many of you will have seen me in your primary schools or
you will have visited the Academy before to a transition experience or event led by
myself and Coop Young Leaders. I know that the move to high school can be
daunting, however we pride ourselves on the fact that we make this an enjoyable and
flawless move for all. I will be in contact weekly with your Year 6 teachers, your
parents and carers and yourselves to make the move to Co-op Academy a smooth, successful experience.
I am Mr Watts and I am your Year Manager. I am really looking forward to meeting our new Year 7 students and supporting you throughout your first year at the Academy.
My role is to ensure you settle into life at the Academy and that you make the most of your time with us. I am also new to the Academy myself so I really do understand what it is like to be starting somewhere new.
Please come and find me if you need any help with anything or even if you want to just come and introduce yourself. Look forward to seeing you in all September.

Thursday 3rd September 2020
This is a good time to reflect with your family and think about everything that has happened on your first day. You may still have some questions or worries, if so, write them in your planner to
ask students or a member of staff on your second day.
We all want this to be a special time for you, and a day that will bring back happy memories in your future years at the Academy.

Administration guidelines and routines
SafeguardingSafeguarding and the welfare of children is of paramount importance. Children need to feel safe, secure and listened to. Please do not hesitate to pass on any safeguarding concerns relating to children. If something doesn’t feel right - it probably isn’t right. Your concerns will be treated with the utmost importance. The Academy Designated Safeguarding Officer is Mrs M. Goodwin and the Deputy is Mrs J. Holdcroft. Other Safeguarding Officers are Mrs P. Taylor, Miss A. Cooke and Mrs D. Drew (SENDco).
All staff at the Academy formally and actively adopt the ‘The Academy Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy’ which is found on the Academy website. The Academy also promotes the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs. Bullying or any form of discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated and will be dealt with immediately.
Mrs M Goodwin is contactable on [email protected] or through the main reception number on 01782 882300 (option4).
Attendance:The Academy attendance target for 2020-2021 is 96% or above. It is vital that your child attends the Academy regularly in order for them to learn and progress and achieve their best. At the Academy we believe that every lesson is important and that every day your son or daughter is absent it has the potential to damage their achievement and affect their future. Studies have shown that student attendance which falls below 96% can result in a drop in GCSE grades in each of their chosen subjects. Following the changes in legislation in 2013, parents are no longer entitled to take any leave of absence for their children during term time. Leave of absence during term time will only be granted under exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the Headteacher. This does not include family holidays, celebrations or weddings. Any leave of absence must be requested in advance where possible. It is a legal requirement for parents/carers to inform the Academy of any reason for absence during term time.
Absence:Please telephone the Academy on 01782 882300 (option 1) on the first day of your child’s absence before 9.00am. We currently use a system called ‘Sims In Touch’, which means that on a child’s absence from the Academy you will receive an automated phone call asking you to contact the Academy to inform us of why your child is not in that day. Unauthorised absences may also result in a home visit conducted by the Academy. Should the absence be for more than one day, please contact our attendance team, through the receptionist so that suitable work can be arranged for your child to complete at home. Thank you for your support. Lateness to the Academy: Punctuality ensures that children do not miss any part of their lessons.Arriving late at school can be very disruptive for your child because it makes them feel awkward, especially when the lesson has to stop for them to enter. It causes unnecessary stress and discomfort. It is also disruptive for the teacher and the other students in the class. If a child arrives after 9.00am, they will be given a ‘Late Mark’ on their register along with a 20 minute lunchtime detention to be served that day. The marks are entered in the Electronic Register and are monitored regularly. If your child arrives late on two occasions in a week then a one hour late detention will be served after school, you will be notified of this in advance.
Lateness to Lessons:Avoidable lateness to lessons will also result in your child receiving an immediate 20 minute detention at lunchtime. Persistent lateness to lessons may also result in a Friday after school detention run by a senior member of staff.
Medical Appointments:Where possible appointments should not be made in the Academy day, they should be arranged out of Academy hours or in holiday time. Where appointments are unavoidable, please provide an appointment letter or card and write in your child’s planner the date, time and purpose of the appointment. Your child will then be allowed out of class and should go straight to reception. All students must be collected in person by a parent/carer. We will never allow a student to go by themselves to an appointment. The vast majority of instances, students will be expected to return to the Academy after their appointment. Medicines:If your child needs to take any medication please notify the Academy. A completed permission form, along with the medication is to be handed in to the Academy. Arranging an Appointment with a member of staff:When wishing to arrange an appointment to see a member of staff, contact the Academy to arrange an appointment at a mutually convenient time. Arrival without an appointment can often mean disappointment or frustration for parents, if the person you wish to see is unavailable. Please see the website for contact details. Change of personal information for illness and communication It is important that we are informed of any changes in personal information. We need to be notified of any change to your contact telephone number or home address immediately. Most communication will be made by email so please update us with any changes to your email address. Confidentiality All information required by the Academy or given by parents is treated in the strictest confidence.
