CONGRATULATIONS TO 2020 GREEN TEAM MEMBERS
Beth and Hudson are two of the excited Green Team members who this
morning at assembly were announced, along with forty eight other stu-
dents from Kindergarten to Year 6. Two students from each class were
elected by their peers to represent them at regular meetings throughout
the year . The Green Team has responsibility for putting forward creative
initiatives and taking action to reduce the school’s environmental footprint.
They have already been working hard and will be reintroducing Nude Food
Tuesdays to help reduce the amount of landfill and recyclable waste we
produce. See page 6 for the full wrap on Nude food. A full list of Green
Team members is on page 2.
Rozelle Public School’s swimming team was announced as the School
Champions at the Balmain Zone Carnival held yesterday. Despite the rain
students performed to the best of their ability and behaved beautifully for
Alden Kwok and Claire Rolland. Further exciting news about the Carnival
can be found on page 3.

HIGH SCHOOL APPLICATIONS FOR 2021
Parents of Year 6 students have received the Expression of
Interest form for high school. Every student needs to return a
completed form, whether they will be attending a government
high school or not. Please return these to your child’s class
teacher or to the school office as soon as possible. Please
contact Tara Bryant or Angela Svinos for further information.
YEAR 3 AND YEAR 5 NAPLAN
This year Rozelle Public School will be completing the NAPLAN tests for students in Years 3 and 5 online. There are four tests per year group: Writing, Reading, Conventions of Language and Numeracy. There has been some confusing information about the Writing test for Year 3 students and I apologise for this. The Year 3 Writing test will not be online (as perhaps was previously explained to you). Year 3 students will undertake a written paper test as in previous years. There is a nine-day window for students to complete all their NAPLAN tests and I will be sending out a letter and a timetable with further information and test dates at the beginning of Term 2. Day 1 of testing will be Tuesday 12th May and the last day of testing will be Friday 22nd May. Students will be completing many practice tests at school, with their teacher, to ensure they are confident in the requirements for the actual test. If you have any further questions or concerns around NAPLAN please see your child’s class teacher or Mrs Hunt.

STAFF NEWS
As I have already announced, I will be retiring from the Department of Education and as Principal of
Rozelle Public School this term. My last day at school will be Friday 20 March 2020. Following my re-
tirement I will take up a position as a Leadership Advisor in the Department of Education's School
Leadership Institute. Angela Svinos will relieve as Principal until the process for appointing a new Prin-
cipal is completed.
Rod Megahey, the substantive Director Educational Leadership for our Iron Cove network, is relieving
in another position for the remainder of 2020. Simon Paterson is the relieving Director Educational
Leadership during this time. Simon Paterson will provide further advice to you about the recruitment
process for the Principal position at Rozelle when he receives advice from the Department of Educa-
tion’s Human Resources Directorate.
We said a final goodbye to Rob Caggegi today as he has been successful in gaining a position as a
Planner with Schools Infrastructure NSW. We wish him all the best as he embarks on this exciting new
challenge.
PERSONAL HYGIENE—LETS WORK AS A TEAM
I have attached a separate Information sheet with this Newsletter to provide an update to the Depart-
ment of Education’s evolving response to the Novel Coronavirus. Please ensure you read it carefully.
Consistent with current guidelines, students who are unwell with respiratory illness should remain at
home until symptoms resolve. In accordance with the NSW Department of Education’s current prac-
tice, if any student becomes unwell, the school will implement infection control guidelines and follow
the advice provided by the NSW Ministry of Health as appropriate.
Maintaining good hygiene standards is an important way to reduce the risk of acquiring and spreading
respiratory infections. Parents and caregivers are asked to promote good hygiene, including hand-
washing with soap as handwashing is the single most effective way to reduce the spread of germs that
cause respiratory disease. Staff at Rozelle are ensuring that students are washing their hands fre-
quently and are also talking to them about nose-blowing, coughing and sneezing. The Department of
Health has further resources
