Dry River—Tara Year 10
What a great start to the term we have had! I hope all parents and caregiv-ers have caught up on last week’s newsletter that contained lots of infor-mation about procedures and expectations for our students. We are having an Open Day on Wednesday 27th February from 5 to 7pm. This is a great opportunity for current parents to come and see the school, and see all the great opportunities we provide. It is also a chance for mem-bers of the community to visit, particularly if they have children in Primary School and they are making decisions about which High School they would like to attend.

On assembly last Tuesday Ms West informed students about the 2019 Windsor Whisper Student run newslet-
ter that is produced once a team. This year there will be lots of positions available, such as journalists, photog-
raphers, illustrators etc.
Our very successful Year 12 Business Services students introduced our Cash for Cans Cage program, includ-
ing information about the reward system- any student who is seen by the teacher on duty putting a can or bot-
tle in the cage gets their name put in a hat- drawn weekly on assembly- what a great initiative our students
have introduced to our school.

Staff also introduced our Interest groups which ran for the first time last week. There are a few new groups
including BAM, which is a Boxing & Anger Management program, being delivered by Ric from Bligh Park
Community Centre.
Ms Horan introduced the dance troupe interest group, which are planning on auditioning for School Spectacu-
lar later on in the year.

Interest groups were a huge success with the very vast majority of students volunteering to attend a group. There are 22 Interest groups available this term (please see flyer later in this newsletter).
Mr Zivkovic, teacher responsible for the SRC, announced the Valentine’s Rose buying opportunities that will
be available this week.
This year Valentine’s Day Roses are beautiful! For only $4 students can get a rose delivered to one of their
friends on Thursday morning. You can get roses from any SRC member or from the English staff room. Make
it a very Happy Valentine’s Day for someone!
Mr Muscio invited all our sporting students to get involved in representative teams for various sports including
baseball, Rugby and soccer.
Our Sports Assembly was a huge success, with all students showing great passion, enthusiasm and school
spirit as they participated in voting in their sports captains and delivering their house chant for the upcoming
swimming carnival. The role as a sports captain provides these students with enriching leadership opportuni-
ties that will hold them in good stead for their future vocations.

The WHS Show team went to Morisset Show on Sunday. We won Best Exhibit with our doe Vivian. Our other doe, Raven got Reserve Champion. We would like to congratulate Hannah and Amelia in Year 9 who have taken on leadership within the Team. With their expertise, the showing of the goats went smoothly. Isabelle developed her skills in handling and 2 new students, Laura and Courtney from Year 7, enjoyed their first expe-
rience at showing. Well done Team!
To provide cultural experiences for our students we have hosted a school from Shang-Hai, China this week.
This school wanted their students to attend a shortened program of only three days at school, where they
have attended normal classes to see what it is like to attend a high school in Australia. There has been lots of
smiling faces so we hope they have enjoyed their time with us.
It has come to our attention that students who take leave during school time to attend family holidays are re-quired to complete a formal request. If approved, students will receive an Exemption Form for the time they are away. This is particularly important if travelling on a plane/ or ship, as custom officers can now ask to see the Exemption form as a part of the boarding requirements. Firstly, we ask where-ever possible parents/caregivers do not plan holidays in school time, however if unavoidable, then the request for leave must be done in advance. Copies of the paperwork can be picked up from the front office, but one is also include in this
newsletter for your convenience.

What’s new this week:
Sherlock Holmes’ Puzzles
Do you think you have a brain for solv-
ing the unsolvable ??
We have a new game for you to play. Each week we will put up a Sherlock Holmes style puz-zle for you to riddle out. It is not something that you can solve straight away, and it’s certainly not google-able !! But get your brains around these challenges and you could be in for an awesome prize. For each correct answer given to Mrs Tait, you will go into the draw to win a $20 gift card at the end of the term.
Puzzles will be up both inside and outside the library.
Take a photo, or use the QR code to access
online, so you can take it away with you and work
it out.
"Each new discovery furnishes a step which leads on to the complete
truth"
