    Empowering our Children

    TAIRUA SCHOOL NEWSLETTER8th February 2011Week 2 of 11

    Kia Ora tatou

We had a successful first week back to school withloads of smiling faces and enthusiastic children eagerto meet up with friends and establish themselves in theclassroom and school programme. Classroom expec-tations, routines, behaviour plans and basic day-to-day practices are being established through discus-sions and conversations. Our school values are re-flected in everything we do and say both in and out-side the classroom.

The Tairua School Citizen Concept, created in Room 5throughout 2010, will once again be promoted andencouraged across the school and community. The

Staff and B.O.T are currently critiquing the model andwill be requiring community input and perspectives. We will keep you informed on our progress throughoutthis process.

Connected to our local, national andglobal environment

    No take, all give

Walking and Biking to School:A friendly reminder to all children andparents biking to school that helmetsare required. We will be workingclosely with Constable Matt Good-man to ensure all our students andfamilies are kept safe on our roads. This is also a good time of year tocheck your bikes, brakes and tyres forwear and tear. If you and your childwalk to school we do encourage you to walk alongthe water front and not the main road. This is a busystretch of road and we know for a fact that motorists,on average are well above the speed limit.

The speed trailer will be out in front of the school thisweek encouraging motorists to watch their speed andremind them of their 50k speed limit. When I receivethe statistics regarding the weeks data, I will let youknow.
