Knife Crime—How it affects LIVES
When you carry a knife, you are risking everything. Prison, being
a victim of crime and even ending up in hospital are all real risks.
Beyond this, knife crime has devastating personal effects on you,
your friends and your family.
While some young people pick up a knife to feel safer, they don’t
realise that carrying makes them more likely to get into serious
danger. A knife can escalate things way out of your control, and
make a bad situation much worse.
It might not always seem like it, but putting down the knife will
make you safer and help you to reach your full potential. Don’t
let prison or serious injury stop you achieving your goals.

Recipe—Lemon Sorbet
Ingredients
250g white caster sugar
Thick strip of lemon peel
Juice of 2-3 lemon
Method
1. Heat 250ml water, the sugar and the lime peel in a small pan until the sugar has dis-solved. Cook for 3 minutes and then turn off the heat and leave to cool. Pick out the lemon peel and discard. Measure 100ml of lemon juice and add to the mixture.
2. Pour into a freezer box or old ice cream tub and freeze for 1hr 30 minutes . Mix up with a whisk to break up and incorporate the ice crystals, then return to the freezer.
3. Keep mixing the sorbet once an hour for 4 hours to break up the ice crystals. Stop mixing when firm but still scoopable then store in the freezer for up to a month.
4. Enjoy on a warm day!
Enjoy! I would love to see you attempts. Please send pictures to [email protected]. I will be including some of your pictures in the last News-letter for the Summer break, so get baking.
MINDFULNESS EXERCISE
Mindfulness Meditation
Find a place where you can sit quietly and undis-
turbed for a few minutes. To begin, you might want
to set a timer for about 10 minutes, but after some
experience you should not worry about the length
of time you are meditating.
Begin by bringing your attention to the present
moment by noticing your breathing. Pay attention
to your breath as it enters and leaves your body.
Before long, your mind will begin to wonder, pull-
ing you out of the present moment. That’s ok.
Notice your thoughts and feelings as if you are
outside observer watching what’s happening in
your brain. Take note, and allow yourself to return
to your breathing.
Sometimes you might feel frustrated or bored.
That’s fine-these are just a few more feelings to
notice. Your mind might start to plan an upcoming
weekend, or worry about a responsibility. Notice
where your thoughts are going, and accept what’s
happening.
Whenever you are able to, return your concentra-
tion to you breathing. Continue this process until
your timer rings, or until you are ready to be done.

We can start paying a small amount for 4 videos from each individual which can help and motivate them too. We also are going to launching weekly com-petitions attached to the episodes where young people can win prizes worth p to £25 for a set period of weeks from funding we have just received.
There have been some young people whose videos are being seen by BBC3 as possible openings for presenter work which is great too as their confidence grows. Young people just have to send their 3 to 4 minute videos unedited about tips and advice around their favourite food, fitness tips, hobby or life skills/career advice. They don't have to worry about editing them just send in rough as we have an editor that can clean up them up to [email protected]
