Participate in the ServScript Program! Service hours being accepted this summer 2014 semester are those completed between May 3 through August 1, 2014. Keep track of your hours throughout the semester using the ServScript form, and then submit your hours online (at my.fsu.edu) by the deadline, Friday, August 1, by 11:59pm. Any hours completed after August 1st can be submitted for the fall semester. Have questions? Refer to the FAQ page, at thecenter.fsu.edu/ServScript-Program/FAQ. Back-to-School & Gift Card Drive: The Children’s Home Society is doing a Back-To-School and Gift Card Drive now through August 8! You can make it possible for local kids to go back to school with self-confidence and the supplies necessary to put their best foot forward! Gift cards will allow Children’s Home Society to meet the unique needs of local kids throughout the year. Help make a difference in the lives of children today! Donations can be dropped off at the Center for Leadership & Social Change, Dunlap Success Center at 100 South Woodward, Tallahassee, FL 32306. Early Learning Coalition Volunteer Opportunity: On June 24 (next Tuesday) and July 22, Children’s Home Society has an opportunity for you (maximum of 7 volunteers) to play with some of their foster kids from 6:15pm-8:45pm at the Early Learning Coalition (off of Tharpe Street and MLK, in Northwood Plaza). As volunteers, you will be expected to focus on the children at all times, remain calm, ensure safety, be prepared for emergencies, and provide engaging activities. WHAT IS THE OUTREACH PROGRAM? The Outreach Program is a great way to get involved with community service! Just sign up and show up and you’ll be on your way to a service experience! Projects are offered at a variety of nonprofit agencies and there are projects to choose from almost every day of the week. To get involved: Step 1: Pick up a schedule; Step 2: Choose a project that matches your interests and fits your schedule and sign up in the project binder at the Center for Leadership and Social Change; Step 3: Show up at The Center at the designated project arrival time. You’ll meet your Project Facilitators and get checked in; Step 4: Enjoy your service experience; Step 5: Record your service using the ServScript Program; Step 6: REPEAT steps 2 – 5 all semester long! AMERICAN RED CROSS
Volunteer Opportunities: If you would like to help those affected by a disaster through the American Red Cross, become a trained Red Cross volunteer. Many of the volunteers are disaster responders that have taken the necessary courses, offered free of cost, to provide assistance to clients during a disaster relief operation. There are many ways to get involved with the Red Cross of the Big Bend – Public Health, Emergency Services, International Services, Youth Programs, etc. Whether you prefer to help educate others on disaster preparedness or join the Disaster Action Team and assist clients affected by a home fire, there are multiple ways in which you can make an impact in your community. POETIC LYRICISM CAREried Away: Cool Summers: On Friday, June 27 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm. Poetic Lyricism (PL) will welcome the new CARE 2014 class with a day full of water balloons and water gun fights, tug of war, refreshments, and other water activities! Come help PL welcome them! A $20 donation is requested if your organization is interested in co-sponsoring the event and for attendance. This will go toward helping to pay for water day activities and refreshments for all in attendance. Please email [email protected] by June 18th if you are interested in attending! PL Cares: Did you miss Language of Lingerie last year? Skipped out on Death of Ignorance? PL Cares is the perfect time to get a recap of last year’s shows while getting a sneak peek into all the upcoming shows that PL will host in 2014-2015 school year. SYLVESTER DAVIS AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM The Sylvester Davis After-School Program is looking for college students to volunteer as tutors Monday through Thursday from 2:00pm to 5:30pm at the Lawrence Gregory Community Center in fall 2014. Volunteers will help change the mindset of the participants at the community center. Volunteers should be prompt, on time, follow the guidelines of the rules for participants to be in the program, and develop a mentor/mentee relationship. Lawrence Community Center is located on the north side of Tallahassee off of Dade Street. INTERNSHIP/PAID OPPORTUNITIES
AMERICAN RED CROSS: COMMUNITY OUTREACH INTERN
The Capital Area Chapter Outreach Intern will manage and facilitate Chapter community outreach, as well as community disaster education, to increase disaster preparedness knowledge and promote a stronger American Red Cross presence within our 8 county regions of the Big Bend – Leon, Gadsden, Wakulla, Liberty, Madison, Taylor, and Jefferson. This internship is a minimum of 1 year (Fall/Spring), a minimum time commitment of 15 hours per week, and the availability to start earlier if desired. The intern will gain hands on experience with non-profit program development, opportunity to learn and experience volunteer management, and valuable networking. Potential majors that are applicable to this position are marketing, customer service, and public relations. Responsibilities:
• Respond as the main point of contact for outreach event requests and invitations
• Research possible outreach opportunities within 8 county regions
• Contact schools, churches and other applicable organizations to inform of Red Cross community disaster education – Fire Safety and Disaster Preparedness presentations, Citizen CPR, Fire Weather House and Scrubby Bear
• Recruit volunteers to participate in outreach and/or community disaster education
• Submit outreach and community disaster education monthly reports to Disaster Specialist
Expectations: • Support the mission and values of the American Red Cross • Maintain office hours at Capital Area Chapter office (at least
15 hours a week) • Be reliable, arrive on time and be sure to notify Supervisor of
any changes • Meet with Disaster Specialist and Volunteer Coordinator on a
monthly basis for outreach updates Qualifications:
• Registered American Red Cross volunteer (or plan to become registered volunteer)
• Must have excellent customer service and communication skills
• Must be detail oriented and organized • Maintain strong degree of professionalism with peers and

FEDERAL WORK STUDY POSITIONS AT THE CENTER FOR LEADERSHIP & SOCIAL CHANGE
Center Operations Assistant: Center Operations Assistants (COAs) are responsible for preforming a wide variety of important tasks at the Center for Leadership & Social Change such as assisting with the daily operations and upkeep of the Center. Duties include: maintaining the department’s fleet of vans (filling with gas, replenishing forms, data entry of mileage logs, transporting to/from the repair shop, etc.); organizing/cleaning spaces in the building (storage closets, work rooms, etc.); and helping with other special projects. COAs will have the opportunity to cover the front desk as needed (answering phones and assisting visitors who come in seeking information or services). Students should be able to work 8 to 10 hours/week, Monday through Friday. Applicants should possess the following:
• Basic computer software/functions to do basic data entry • Reliable, responsible & takes the initiative • Communication skills, verbal & written • Strong customer service skills & organizational skills • Ability to establish & maintain effective working relationships • Basic understanding & appreciation of the Center & its

Center Finance/Administration Student Assistant: Student Assistant position in the Finance/Administration cluster at CLSC is available. Student should be able to work 8 to 10 hours/week, preferably working 1.5-2 hours a day, Monday through Friday. Student must have a valid driver’s license, proof of car insurance, and a good driving record. (Driver’s history will be processed before offer is made.) Duties may include:
• Basic office duties: filing, making copies, organizing spaces & other duties as needed
• Running department errands on & off campus • Reception desk coverage when needed – must be comfortable

This position will work specifically with the Identity Exploration Cluster within the Center. Duties include: assisting with cluster programs; research and training related to multiculturalism; identity and diversity awareness; organizing/cleaning spaces in the building (storage closets, work rooms, etc.); helping with other special projects; should be open to other perspectives as people do things differently; show sensitivity to differences; and educate self on topics related to diversity, privilege, oppression, multicultural and intercultural. Students should be able to work 8 to 10 hours/week, Monday through Friday, between 8:00am and 5:00pm. Applicants should possess the following:

Teach For America is currently hiring for an on-campus paid internship – the Campus Campaign Coordinator (CCC). CCCs strive to build a movement on campus to spread awareness of the issue of educational inequity at FSU. CCCs develop and execute a detailed strategic plan aimed at inspiring top students to apply for the 2015 Teach For America corps, and motivate underclassmen to get involved in this issue in some way. In this position, Campus Campaign Coordinators enhance their professional skills in networking, marketing strategies, data analysis, and communication while gaining an understanding of how a successful nonprofit organization operates. It is an opportunity for all majors and backgrounds who are interested in applying to be a Teach For America corps member or staff member upon graduation. This internship opportunity is on-campus, from August 2014 to May 2015, part-time (10-15 hours a week), and paid the same salary as minimum wage in Florida.
