DESCRIPTION
In little more than a year, the UK will host the biggest sporting event in the world. Almost all areas of the UK will be affected by the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games – 95% of the country will be within an hour’s journey of the Torch Relay, there will be a UK-wide cultural festival in the run-up to the Games, schools across the country will be taking part in an Olympic-style sports competition and the Games will have significant resilience implications for local authorities. This workshop will provide delegates with all the practical information that they need to ensure that their authorities, communities and local businesses are prepared for the impact of the Games and are ready to make the most of the opportunities they present. Speakers: Cllr Stephen Castle, Deputy Chair, LG Group Culture Tourism and Sport Programme Board and Cabinet Member for Education and the 2012 Games, Essex County Council David Moorcroft, Olympian and Chair, West Midlands Leadership Group for the 2012 Games Chair: Cllr Chris White, Chair, LG Group Culture, Tourism and Sport Programme BoardTRANSCRIPT
