Principal’s Message Water
Please ensure that your child brings in water for consumption at school. Unfortunately
something has tainted our water so we are emptying the tanks. The rainwater tank beside
the Art Room is suitable for drinking and general purpose, but we encourage all students
to bring their own drinking water each day until our tanks are replenished.
Koondrook Wharf
The students had an interesting day visiting the ibis rookery and Koondrook wharf. The
organisers of the Koondrook Wharf opening were greatly impressed in the quality of our
students’ posters. Congratulations to Tegan, Blake and Milla for winning the main prize
(family ticket for a paddle steamer ride). The judges were so impressed that they gave
awards to all our students.
Indonesian Primary School Teachers visit to Lake Charm
This week Lake Charm Primary is hosting two Indonesian Primary School teachers. Stanli
dari Pulau Aru Maluku dan Yasman Hulu dari Nias Utara. Stanli and Yasman have
showed the students videos and photos of their small remote schools, homes, culture and
communities. It has been interesting for our students to compare our guests schools to
Lake Charm. Stanli and Yasman are in Australia as part of a three weeks program
supported by the Asia Education Foundation which promotes links between Australian
schools and schools in the Asian region, such as Indonesia. This program has provided us
with a great opportunity to practice our Indonesian and learn more about the everyday
lives and culture of people from another country. Stanli and Yasman are thoroughly
enjoying their time at Lake Charm and hope to maintain links between their schools and
Lake Charm into the future.
Mosquitoes
On Monday afternoon the students participated in a Shire of Gannawarra information
session on mosquitoes. The students had a great time learning about mosquitoes and how
to safely control them. Studying mosquitoes under a microscope was absolutely
fascinating. We were visited by a giant mosquito called Big Moz. Thank you to Narelle
O’Donoghue, Shane Leerson the ranger and KelseyCorrie. for conducting this important
presentation at Lake Charm.
What’s happening in the classroom?
The visit of two Indonesian Primary School teachers has provided a great opportunity for our students to learn about the culture and language of Indonesia. The students are completing videos and writing letters which will be taken back to Indonesia. Hopefully we can form links with the students from our
guests schools. Our mosquito studies culminated in a presentation from the Shire of Ganawarra. Creative Ryan recycling boxes. “Sun Proof and Mozzie Proof”
On Friday morning we made some poppies for Remembrance Day and at 10:40am we reverently marched up to the Lake Charm Memorial Gates, where we had our own service, raising then lowering the flag, reciting the ode, listening to The Last Post, having a minutes silence, followed by The Rouse. We then put our poppies on the Memorial Gates, and despite the wind and the rain most of the poppies
managed to stay on the gates. Last Friday we farewelled our third student teacher for the year – Miss Kara Harberger. The children have enjoyed having Miss H in the classroom these last 3 weeks and voiced their sadness at her having to leave. Miss H enjoyed another Friday Healthy lunch
with the children, followed by chocolate muffins that Miss H, Tegan, Jacob and Kate had baked that morning.
On Monday morning Mr G took us to the Ibis Rookery to see all the birds as it is breeding season. The WAS water everywhere, thousands of birds and millions of mozzies!! We then went to Koondrook to the Wharf opening. As we wandered
about, the crew of the P>S> Canberra invited us on for a look over their boat. The Captain told us it took a few days to travel to Koondrook from Echuca travelling about 12kmph, but that the trip home would take longer against the current and travel speed would be about 7kmph.
After eating our lunch, we were taken aboard the P.S. Alexander Arbuthnot for a look around and to receive the certificates for the drawing competition we entered a week ago. The official opening was about 45minutes of speeches and then the cutting of the ribbon.
We then had a play on the exercise equipment to stretch our legs after the long sit! We arrived back at school in time to go home with Mr G. Junior Room Although we are nearing the end of another school year, and life gets busier, please, please keep up listening to your children read daily, even if it is only a page or two, then please sign their reading diary. In the classroom we are doing lots of finishing off, revising and testing, plus concert activities. How many sleeps until Christmas? No I don’t think I want to know! – Miss Noonan.
