Ratio Mark-up:

• The method of calculating price based on the wholesale cost of items, simply doubling, tripling the wholesale price.

For example:

• 1 rose = $.85 wholesale• 3x mark-up =• $.85 X 3= $2.55• Can add more for labor• Can use graduated scale so cheap flowers are

marked up more and expensive flowers less.– Flowers costing less than $.50 are marked up 4X– Flowers costing more than $2.00 are marked up 2X

• Special arrangements, wedding flowers, corsages, - much labor or planning time invested X 4

Example

• A customer wants bouquet of a dozen roses

• This is a basic arrangement so it would be marked up 3 times

• $.90 X 12 = $11.80 X 3 = $35.40

Reverse

• A customer wants to spend $36 on a corsage• This is a more labor intensive product so the

mark-up would be X 4.• In this case we want to know how much the

retail cost of the flowers should be to place in this arrangement so we divide by 4.

• The flowers and supplies to make the corsage should cost no more than $9.

• Reception flowers– Moderate time – X3– Flowers

• 2 Hydrangea – X 3.00 = $6.00• 4 delphinium – x $.80 = $3.20• 3 roses – X $.85 = $2.55• 1 pitt – X $.30 = $.30• Total = $12.05

– Charge customer at least $36.15– (round up to $37)
