ISSUE 30 | June 2015

The topic title ‘Happy Families’ enabled the children to develop their enquiry skills. A huge turnout of parents and grandparents joined us to help the children gain a sense of what life was like in the past. The children drafted questions to ask our visitors and gained a great deal from the lesson. The next lesson will focus on comparing and contrasting the answers.

Big congratulations!

Congratulations to Mrs Mounsey who is expecting a baby in the autumn. To be perfectly honest…

Stars ofthe week

Enterprise WeekThe children have had a terrific time throughout Enterprise Week. I gave each class £50 and the children were given the challenge of planning, costing and selling a product ‘a la apprentice style’ (but without the firing). The project has been a lovely skills and knowledge boost encompassing literacy, maths, business thinking skills and art. On Friday 3rd July, the children will hoist up stalls to show and sell their ideas just before the Music on the Field event gets underway. Big thank you to James Duvall and the FOPHS team for incorporating the tea towel project into this week which captured the essence of the learning. New Pixies Hill tea towels will be on sale soon following extensive market research!

General News• Don’t forget our celebration evening showcasing all the children’s work on Thursday 9th July.

Recent turnout to workshops and some events has been low - are we doing too many? Please give us your feedback so we can plan next year accordingly.

• If you have any old PE kits that are unwanted, please donate so we have spares in school for children who forget to bring in their kit.

• The girls in Y4 selling loom bands managed to make an impressive £76.30 which will be sent to Great Ormond Street Hospital.

Trip to the ZooYear 5 and 6 enjoyed a trip to the zoo and were treated to an ice-cream in good weather conditions. As well as seeing the many exotic and rare animals on display, the children has a chance to test out the adventure park. They were also able to watch the sea lion show which involved getting a little wet and watching in amusement as the instructor asked the first sea lion if he wanted to come out of his cage and after nodding ‘no’ in response, he dutifully went back inside.

to everyone!Well done

Circus Skills and BoxmoorIn order to rescue the circus lion, Reception and Year 1 had to learn how to juggle and become effective clowns in their story based workshop. Reception class also enjoyed a trip to The Box Moor Trust.

In other business news, we have 20 old style wooden chairs for sale for £25 each. If you would like one then do see the office before we put them on sale via eBay for the normal going rate of £40.
