Redland “We all say we can, and we do!” Year Groups: 5/6 Term/weeks: Spring 1 2018 As readers… we will be continuing with our whole class reading. We will be developing different skills, with a particular focus on word meaning. As writers… we will be writing explanation texts and looking at the works of significant authors, including Michael Morpurgo and Phillip Pullman. We will be studying and applying our knowledge of grammatical terms, and a range of punctuation, in order to enrich our writing. We will continue to learn spellings on a weekly As mathematicians… we will be furthering our understanding of fractions. We will be learning about measures and angles, calculating perimeter and area, and revising key mathematical vocabulary such as prime, square and cube numbers, factors and multiples. We will also be working on arithmetic questions at speed. Please continue to support your child with times Classes: Kingfishers and Falcons As geographers… we will be studying climate zones and biomes of the world. We will be researching the features of specific biomes, including climate, vegetation, animals and indigenous peoples. As members of our community (PSHE)… we will be looking at dreams and goals. As part of this, we will be looking at insulators and conductors, dissolving materials and reversible/irreversible changes. We will be planning and carrying out a number of scientific enquiries to answer questions, including recognising and controlling variables where necessary. As computing experts… we will be looking at the amazing world of Augmented Reality (AR). We will apply what we learn to tell the story behind famous art and bring it to life using AR. As linguists… we will be looking at the geography of France, and speaking and writing weather phrases.
