Barluath News Letter

Christmas 2015

Hello and a very Happy Christmas to everyone from Barluath!

We’ve had an eventful and exciting few months in the Barluath camp.

Firstly, we have had a change in line-up. After nearly 2 years as our guitarist, Luc McNally officially left the band in September. We’d like to take this time to thank Luc for his commitment and wish him every success in the future.

Shortly after our European adventure began…

European Adventure

It all started on the 6th of October with a trip to Germany. We were joined on this tour by guitarist Owen Sinclair.

We were met in Glasgow by a new friend, a lovely transit van that was leant to us by band friend Pete Ligget. After a short drive we boarded the ferry to Rotterdam from Hull. The tour saw us travel all over Germany and play at both large and small venues. One of the major highlights was playing at the Nuremberg Folk Club on Saturday the 10th. The show was a great success and we will be making a return trip on the 22nd of October 2016. We’d like to thank everyone who came to all our German shows and in particular we thank Carla Feuerstein of Firestone Music Agency for making it such a memorable trip.

Without even stopping for breath we were out on the road again, almost as soon as the tour was over, this time to Denmark.

We were joined this time by Guitarist and snapchat enthusiast Craig Irvine. Craig worked with us earlier in the year at Celtic Connections and it was great to gig with him again.

We had 3 gigs which saw us work at 3 amazing venues. These pictures give you an idea of all the fun we had!

We will be making more trips to Germany and Denmark in 2016. If anyone would like to enquire about booking the band for a performance while we are over you can contact us at the following addresses.

After a very exciting week we headed back to Scotland to begin the next chapter of our winter adventure.

New Music Video

We are in the process of making a music video that we will be releasing in January. The video features the song ‘Touch the Gate’ written by our very own Ainsley. It was recorded in Gloworm Studios in the west end of Glasgow and we are delighted to introduce Pablo Lafuente on guitar for the new project.

We had a great day in the studio even if it the excitement got too much for some of us.

The actual filming took place on location in The Car Park in the Sky in Paisley. We arrived around 7.30am to begin filming. Cold is putting it mildly but a couple of beaks to warm up in the car and a trip to Starbucks saw us through! We’ll be completing the filming on the 29th of December and it will be released in time for Celtic Connections.

Live From the Tower

We spent November preparing for a new show at The Tower Arts Centre in Helensburgh. We were joined by Pablo on Guitar and Thomas Lowe on the drums. After some fairly full on rehearsals we had a new show that we aired on the 5 th of December. New compositions and some new tune sets making it a great night for everyone involved. Thanks to everyone at the Tower for all their help!

Gaelic Singer of the Year Nomination

Not only was the 5th of December our gig at the tower but we have some rather exciting news. Our lead singer Ainsley Hamill was nominated for Gaelic Singer of the Year at the M G Alba Scots Trad Music Awards.

The band recorded an acoustic session as part of the nomination. You can have a listen by clicking the link below.

We’d like to thank everyone who voted for Ainsley and say a special congratulations to Griogair Labhruidh for winning the award.

Well that’s about all from us for 2015. Thanks again to everyone who made all our adventures possible. We hope to see you at one of our gigs in 2016 but until then have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!
