LI: To learn the basics of designing and modellingSC: I know that designers needs to be creative to come up with new design ideas that solve a problem. I can make a model of my own bedroom.

Follow this link and watch the 2 videos:https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z43hnrdDesigners work in all sorts of areas from product design, where they design the everyday objects in our houses, to fashion design, where they design the clothes we wear.

Designers need to be creative to come up with new design ideas that solve problems.

When a design is thought up, you can communicate how it should look or be made on paper or digitally.

In the following video, taken from the 'I Want to Design' series, a young entrepreneur is shown how to design his own company logo. Different techniques are used when designing a logo and shapes, text, sym-bols and colours can all be used.

Designs can be broken down into simple shapes, such as circles, squares, rectangles and triangles.

Once a designer has worked out the shape a product might be, they will then think about the mater-ial and colour.

It is important to choose a material that will work for the product's intended use. Does it need to be strong or flexible? Does it need to be waterproof or absorbent? These are the some of the material's properties.

The type of material used will affect the texture of the produce and help decide on how the product will be made.

The colour of a product is really important as different colours can have different meanings.

LI: To learn the basics of designing and modellingSC: I know that designers needs to be creative to come up with new design ideas that solve a problem. I can make a model of my own bedroom.

Do activity 1 on the link: https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z43hnrdTry to design and make a 3D model of your bedroom.

Start by writing a list of all the items that need to go in your room, then work out what size the room needs to be to fit everything in.

Once you have planned the size of the bedroom, try to make simple models of key items, such as the bed and any storage spaces, in the correct size for the room.

You will need a pencil, paper or card and any other materials you can find around the house.
