English Story Home Learning Year 6 Please write the date and WALT in your book and complete each day. Some of these activities may need adult support however other tasks can be completed independently. Please make a comment on how much your child was supported in each activity. Week 3- Planning your invented story in a new setting with new characters and writing your new story Monday 4 th May WALT design our own desert island and create an interesting character for a story Activity: PART 1-Using the resources below, firstly design your imaginative, fantasy island (where you are going to end up lost) and locate where in the world it will be. PART 2- Draw and describe you islander. This could be you or someone else that you have made up. Do not forget to include details of what they look like, their personality and draw a picture of them. Challenge- can you use a simile when describing your character? Do they have a pet? Tuesday 5 th May WALT plan my new ‘lost on a desert island’ story which planned in first person Activity: Use the planning grid to create your own story plan about your main character becoming lost on a desert island, meeting or finding someone on the island, either that person helping you or not helping you, and hopefully you getting back home! Challenge: think about how you are going to end up on your island- it might be by plane, cruise, or a boat. Wednesday 6 th May WALT write the introduction and build up for my story in first person using character and setting description Activity: Use your plan to help you write the introduction and build up to your invented story. Remember it is in first person so the use of ‘I’. You will need to aim for around an A4 page of work. Use the original story to help guide your paragraphing if you need to. Do not forget to use ambitious vocabulary and open some sentences with action. Challenge- can you use a variety of adverb openers and prepositional phrases? Thursday 7 th May WALT write the climax and ending for my lost on a desert island story Activity: Use your plan to help you write your climax and ending to your invented story. You might want to add some speech today or indirect speech to let us know how the main character feels. Do not forget to use a variety of conjunctions and make your writing engaging for the reader Challenge- can you include a false climax where we think the main character gets to go home but fails? Friday 8th May OPTIONAL (Bank Holiday) Activity- Can you edit and improve your story before typing it up sending it to me? Glossary of terms Simile-describing something using like or as.
