Monday, 22nd June 2020 Themed week 3- Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) This week we are focusing on the the theme of DYW to promote lifelong skills and sustainable learning. Please complete at least one activity per day, some activities are shorter and will only take under an hour to complete, in this instance, another task should also be completed. Tasks number 6,7,8 and 9 should be completed in order, starting at number 6. This is because your job research from task 6 will help you with tasks 7,8 and 9. I have added all the resources to the bottom of this word document instead of putting them up as separate images on teams. Please let me know if you have problems opening them straight away and I can send you a different format. The powerpoints will be added as attachments. Activities: 1. Literacy- take a look at the PowerPoint “what are my skills and qualities?” And complete the skills and qualities worksheets along with this. Sometimes it can be harder to identify positives about ourselves, so if you’re struggling, you could always as a sibling or family member what they think some of your greatest skills and qualities are. For an extension task, think of an idol or someone you know and jot down what skills and qualities they possess that might make them great for their job. For example, we could note that Miss Karam has great communication skills and organisational skills, and she is also a very helpful and kind headteacher as well as person. 2. Reading- read the worksheet labelled “Vacancies”. Your task is to pick one of the job description vacancies and choose the worksheet that matches it, I.e, if you pick editor, you will complete the “editor” worksheet. Think of the skills and qualities that may be good to have in your chosen role for working on a Newspaper- if you chose Editor, you would need to have good literacy skills such as grammar and punctuation, whereas if you chose Reporter, then you would need to have good talking and listening skills. 3. Spelling- look at the “create your own dictionary” world of work sheet. Find these words in the dictionary and jot down their meaning. For an extension, you may want to add these words into a story or sentences. 4. Reading- have a read of the “Business” powerpoint. Now think of a local business you can compare to a global business. Answer these questions: a) how do the businesses differ from each other? b) how 1

Themed week 3- Developing the Young Workforce (DYW)This week we are focusing on the the theme of DYW to promote lifelong skills and sustainable learning. I have added all the resources to the bot-tom of this word document instead of putting them up as separate images on teams. Please let me know if you have problems opening them straight away and I can send you a different for-mat. The powerpoints will be added as attachments.

Activities:

1. Literacy- take a look at the PowerPoint “what are my skills and qualities?” And complete the skills and qualities worksheets along with this. Sometimes it can be harder to identify posi-tives about ourselves, so if you’re struggling, you could always as a sibling or family member what they think some of your greatest skills and qualities are. For an extension task, think of an idol or someone you know and jot down what skills and qualities they possess that might make them great for their job. For example, we could note that Miss Karam has great com-munication skills and organisational skills, and she is also a very helpful and kind head-teacher as well as person.

2. Reading- read the worksheet labelled “Vacancies”. Your task is to pick one of the job de-scription vacancies and choose the worksheet that matches it, I.e, if you pick editor, you will complete the “editor” worksheet.

Answer these questions: a) how do the businesses differ from each other? b) how are the businesses similar to each other? C) which business do you think provides a wider range of job opportunities and why?

5. Maths- take a look at the “budgeting” sheet. Not only is budgeting a work skills but it is also a life skill. Complete the sheet working out your budget for the summer holidays.

6. Literacy- think of some jobs you may want to do in the future and do some research on them, try to find out a) what skills and qualities do I need for this job? B) what qualifications do I need? C) who could give me further information about this job? Note these answers down on paper.

7. Writing- now that you have found out about some jobs you would like to do, complete the worksheet “My School CV”.

8. Literacy- Choose a job you have researched and get a parent to write down some interview questions. Set up your kitchen or living room like an interview room (a table and chairs) and dress smart as you would for an interview. Get your parent to set a time for your interview and carry it out. When answering their questions, think about why you might be the best per-son for the job (skills and qualities), why you want the job, what experience you might need for the job, as well as remembering to keep a good impression by displaying manners and positive body language (no arms folded or hands in pockets). Bring your CV with you t help give you ideas and remind you of your skills and qualities. You may even want to record this so you can watch it back!
