Small Group / Whole Group Topics:

Independent Reading Students are required to pick a book based on their lexile scores. They must complete a daily log, a comprehension worksheet, and a writing activity for each book. Reading Counts! Quizzes: Students are expected to take and pass all Reading Counts! quizzes for the books in Read 180. When they pass they ring the Success Bell and move on to a new book. Sometimes students need to retake quizzes, but prior to taking the test again, I will print the quiz and they will reread the book.

INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGY: Students are expected to work through the word, spelling, reading, success, and writing zones. They are monitored on their time on task and accuracy of completing those zones. I do not administer a grade for this center.

Writing Projects:• Your child will be completing all of the same projects as the regular education students in cotaught English. We

will complete the assignments in school and they will model the Read 180 models. These projects will not be due at the same time as the other students in seventh grade. They will range in point values of 20-50 points.

• Research paper• Debates• Personal Narratives• Persuasive Essay• Advertising• Advocacy Letter

WRAP UP: 5 minutes at the beginning and end of the period. This activity is completed in your child’s composition book. This activity is 2 points per day. The grade appears at the end of the unit or workshop.

HOMEWORK:• It will be given 2 nights a week.• It will focus directly on the reading skills and strategies that we are focused on in class• Students are expected to highlight or underline to support every answer. This is the only way that they will

receive full credit.• It will range in points from 5-15 points.

SNACK: I allow students to bring in a snack as long as it is not messy. They cannot eat it in other rooms.
