NOTES TO RIDERS

Page 2:  · Web viewPromoted for & on behalf of CTT under its rules & regulations. START SHEET ‘The Jim Perrin’ Memorial Hardriders 25.6 mile TT. A counting …

No riding with your head down, any rider observed riding dangerously will be disqualified from the event and reported to the CTT District Committee for further disciplinary action. Have a fast, but safe ride.

NO 'U' TURNS are allowed within sight of either the start or finish areas, riders carrying out this dangerous manoeuvre are liable for disqualification from the event & further disciplinary action by the CTT District Committee.

Numbers will be situated in the HQ; these can be exchanged for a hot or cold drink after the event.

NO cars to stop or park at the start or finish areas’, warming-up by competitors is not allowed along any part of the designated course, after the event has started.

At right turns at Stambourne (3.9 miles) and Steeple Bumpstead (14.9 miles) riders must STOP if signalled to do so by the Marshall displaying the red flag. Failure to do so will result in disqualification from the event and reporting to the CTT District Committee for possible disciplinary action.

Riders to take care through Steeple Bumpstead & Great Sampford villages, parked cars and domestic driveway exits.

At the two roundabouts riders MUST give way to traffic approaching from their right, riders must exercise care when passing parked vehicles in the villages and give way to approaching traffic.

Parking, there is limited parking at the HQ, but there is further parking in Stephen Marshall Avenue and around the village green. Parking is fairly informal in the village as it is a popular tourist spot. please respect the local residents and use the changing and toilet facilities in the HQ.

The course is a mixture of small lanes, ‘A’ Roads and ‘B’ Roads. None of the lanes are single track although the lane between Stambourne and Man’s Cross (3.9-5.9miles) is quite narrow, so care is required.

Be aware of the riding stables just short of the Radwinter X roads, some horses don't like disc wheels.

Given that we are in Essex the course can only be described as ‘rolling’ so no special gears are required, the only hill of note is the hill 1 mile before the finish.

IN THE INTEREST OF YOUR SAFETY, CTT & THE EVENT PROMOTERS STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO WEAR A HARD-SHELL SAFETY HELMET THAT

MEETS AN INTERNATIONALLY ACCEPTED SAFETY STANDARD, COMPULSORY FOR RIDERS UNDER 18 AND HAVE A REAR FACING

FLASHING RED LIGHT FITTED TO YOUR MACHINE.

Jim Perrin 1937 – 2003

A club cyclist for some 50 years, Jim was a tough and resourceful rider who through his long career rode in just about every discipline of our sport. He rode all the big road events in the fifties, sixties and seventies, gradually shifting his focus to time trialling at a local level through the eighties, nineties and into the new millennium when his life and his continuing love of cycle racing were tragically cut short in a senseless accident in a time trial on the E72 (A12) in August 2003.

Jim rode in many different club colours throughout his long career, starting with the Vitesse RC, and at different stages represented the Acme RC, The RAF CC, VC Braintree and at the time of his death, was spearheading a crack Ciclos Uno squad veteran's team.

Throughout all this, and from as far back as the early fifties, Jim was associated heavily with the Chelmer CC. He was the Chelmer’s club champion from 1976-1978 and racked up most of the club’s veteran’s records at some time or other.

Training rides left 'Jim's at 9' and it’s the roads we are going to race on that formed the basis of many of those training rides. We had long deliberated in the Chelmer how we could pay a fitting tribute to this class act of a rider, and this ongoing event is a suitable tribute to that great rider. Enjoy the day.
