Pictures of the Faithful LifeJohn 7:1-52

 I. Follows the Guidance of the Father (John 7:1-13) A. A wanderer on the earth…following the guidance of the Lord  *(Festival of Booths: Leviticus 23:33-43 Celebrates pilgrim journey to Promised Land) B. Follows the Lord’s direction even more than opinions of family (vv. 6- 8) *(Compare Matthew 10:37-38; John 15:18)

II. Learns the Word of the Father (John 7:14-24) A. No rabbi, but God is the teacher (v. 15) B. No celebrity, but God is celebrated (v. 18) C. God gives discernment and proper judgment (v. 24)

 III. Sent on Mission by the Father (John 7:25-36) 

A. Lives to do the will of the One who sent him (v. 29) *(Compare John 6:38) B. Sent by God and came from God (v. 29) C. Future glory with the Father (vv. 33-34)

IV. Drinks the Living Water of the Son (John 7:37-39) A. Jesus, the water of life (v. 37)

 *(Compare John 6:35; Isaiah 55:1; Jeremiah 2:13; 17:13) B. Salvation and a spirit-filled life (v. 38) C. Future hope of the spirit-filled community *(See Revelation 22:17)

V. Clarity of Purpose in a Confused and Confusing World (John 7:40-52) A. Can a prophet rise from Galilee? Who is this man?  Where is He from? (vv. 40-44) B. “No one ever spoke like this man!” 

What will you do with Jesus? (vv. 45-52)
