Puppies need to be taught housetraining, how to be content in a kennel, how not to nip and jump up on people, how to walk nicely on a leash, etc. We begin working to train and socialize puppies from the day they are born. We expose our puppies to a variety of new and novel things and experiences while they are in their earliest weeks of life. Even so, it is extremely important that new experiences and interactions with many new people continue in their new homes. The most formative time of development occurs during the first few months of life. How your dog interacts with people and the world will be greatly impacted by the training and experiences you provide for him during these months. It is a time-consuming process, but at the same time it is very rewarding and certainly worth the effort!
