Questions about the story:- Can you hear any rhyming words in the book? I wonder if you could think of some

Read to your child Learning to read can be hard work for many children, so it’s important to keep enjoying books together. Your child will also benefit from listening to books and stories that they can’t read themselves yet. This might include non-fiction books about things they are interested in or longer stories with more adventurous vocabulary.

English:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar  The story tells us about what the very hungry caterpillar ate on each day of the week. Can you write a food diary for this week? Make sure you spell the days of the week correctly and then write a sentence about what you ate each day. Can you extend your sentence by adding an adjective to each food e.g. ‘the red tomatoes – the juicy oranges.’ It might be

nice for you to draw a picture of the food too!For an extra treat, why not teach your parents the days of the week song to help us remember the names of the days! The song is here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtQcnZ2JWsY Maths:

Finger painting caterpillars – For this activity, you will need two different coloured paints.  Roll a dice and paint that many sections of the caterpillar (one colour.) Then roll again and change colours for the second set of coloured prints. Can you create a sentence like the one in the picture.

Extra challenge: Can you create the number sentence that links to your caterpillar.  For example, the number sentence for the picture above would be 3+5=8

E safety information:

10 top tips for staying safe on the internet:

1) Don’t post any personal information online – like your full name, email address, mobile number, etc.

2) Think carefully before posting pictures or videos of yourself. Once you’ve put a picture of yourself online, most people can see it and may be able to download it, it’s not just yours anymore.

3) Keep your privacy settings as high as possible!

4) Never give out your passwords.

5) Don’t befriend people you don’t know.

6) Don’t meet up with people you’ve met online. Speak to your parent or carer about people suggesting you do.

7) Remember that not everyone online is who they say they are.

8) Think carefully about what you say before you post something online.

9) Respect other people’s views, even if you don’t agree with someone else’s views doesn’t mean you need to be rude.

10) If you see something online that makes you feel uncomfortable, unsafe or worried: leave the website, turn off your computer if you want to and tell a trusted adult immediately.
