Word of the week - tall

This week’s focus will be time, looking at where we might find the time and the numbers on a clock.

Can you go on a hunt around your house for objects that tell the time? What did you find?

A clock, a watch, the clock on the oven or microwave, a phone etc.

Discuss what the numbers mean.

Children to organise numbers one to twelve like a clock face. Sing the song Hickory Dickory Dock and choose a time. Help your child to use two sticks or spoons as the hands to write the time.

Repeat with a different time.

Create their own clock using the activity below, cut out and order the numbers on the clock and using a split pin or blue tac to hold the hands to change the time.

Or you could create your own with a paper plate or paper.

These are additional Mini-challenges to try and complete across the week:

Fine Motor Skills

Expressive arts and Design

Understanding the world

Using chalk to create a fire on the floor or a wall. Can you use a hose or a spray bottle to put out your fire.

Children to have a go at cutting along the dotted lines. Encourage correct grip of scissors. If you do not have access to a printer can you draw some lines on a piece of paper for your child to cut along.

Paint your hands using oranges, reds and yellows to create your own fire handprints. You can use your foot with brown paint to create your wood or alternatively you could use real sticks/twigs with glue or colour it with felt tips or crayons.

Computer only – Help Fireman Sam to put out the fires.
