A Word From Teacher
Good Morning everyone,
I hope you are all well – rested after the weekend?
We have lots of lovely activities and lessons set out for this week. I hope you enjoy them.
Remember to try your best, keep that writing nice and tidy and don’t worry if anything is too tricky. You will have lots of help when you come back to school.
Who signed up on Mangahigh?? If you didn’t make sure you do. It’s great fun! I will set a new challenge each week.

Each week I will mention the wonderful boys and girls that have submitted their writing for our ‘We are Writers’’ Book. This week I have to say a big well done to Eoghan H who did an interview with his grandparents. I’m sure he learned a lot from the process and that his grandparents were delighted to be part of his ‘We are Writers’ project. Well done Eoghan!
Parents, it has been really lovely to talk to you all over the last couple of weeks. You really are all doing an amazing job by the sounds of it. I know it is far from easy. As mentioned we are all still here for further support in any area. Just contact the school at [email protected]
Some more things to remember for this week:
We are back to our Oxford Readers this week Go to www.oxfordowl.co.uk and click on MyClass login at the top of the page.
Username: Tullydonnell Tigers
Password: MsKeegan ( with capital M and K)
Click on the age group tab and select readers through the week.
Go up or down the age group if reader is too difficult, too easy. Remember reading is not just about reading the words with fluency and expression, but most importantly it’s about comprehension ( reading for understanding) . Therefore question your child on what they have read before moving onto a new reader.
I have attached your spelling sheet for this week. Use it in the same way as normal. Ask an adult to give you a mini- test on Friday.
I have attached the new wordmat for this month’s Class Reader. P.E. continues to be part of each day’s timetable. Go to the Active School tab on
the website for lots of fun activities. Getting active each day is very important. Mangahigh , a maths site is up and running for everyone. Well done to all that have
already signed up. I recommend anyone who has not signed up yet to do so. It is great fun! This will be our Maths Warm Up this week. You can find the link on the text from the school.
You will need to access Abair Liom resources this week again on https://www.folensonline.ie/registration/
The closing date for entries for ‘We are Writers’ task is May 29th . You might like to put this task in, in place of a different lesson one of the days. I hope all of your tasks go well for you this week. The answer sheet is available on the website to use daily.

3. Topic: Story ‘ On the way home.’- Writing
You will be very familiar with our story by now. I hope you have been enjoying it. The little girl Claire has a brilliant imagination. She makes up lots of stories about what happened to her knee throughout the story. Read one of Claire’s imaginative stories below:
Then Claire met her friend Celia“Look at my bad knee”, said Claire.“How did you do it?”, asked Celia.“Well”, said Claire, “there was a gigantic giant and he came stomping through the houses, and he picked me up and said …Fee, fi , fo , fum, a tasty girl for my hungry tum.”“But I punched him on the nose so hard that he let me fall. And that’s how I got my bad knee. “
Today I want you to think of one more story for Claire. Let’s pretend Claire bumped into one more friend named Tom on the way home. Write your story below.
** Remember to use adjectives to describe your imaginative character, just as Claire did. Can you find interesting verbs (action words) for your story also? Example: Instead of walked, you could use stomped, tip-toed, instead of ran , you could use dashed, fled, zoomed.
Then Claire met her friend Tom.
27
“Look at my bad knee”, said Claire.
“How did you do it?”, asked Tom.
