KAREN HEALYWhen Mark began to lose his sight due to a rare eye disease, he refused to let it claim his ability to work and provide for his family. A former truck driver, Mark overcame the barriers in front of him and forged forward on a journey that helped put him back on top.

Karen was born with a brain injury resulting in co-occurring challenges that made her formative years difficult. These challenges led to 24 years of institutional hospitalization, but she never gave up. Karen persevered, fought to reclaim her life and now flourishes living on her own within the community.

BAG IT UPEvery April, Goodwill challenges elementary schools to donate the most items to Goodwill for the chance to win the ultimate prize. In 2017, over 3,000 people rose to the challenge by donating 190,000 items - keeping them out of Connecticut land-fills. That is enough to fill over five school buses! Goodwill was able to turn these donations into enough revenue to help 823 people with their job search needs to help them to support themselves and their families.

Hop Brook Elementary school in Naugatuck, the winning school, received a private performance by Connecticut’s own Amer-ican Idol winner Nick Fradiani and $1,000 to support educational programs.
