BIG CORRECTION – HALF WAY TO ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARTY FEATURING THE JOHNNY MANNING BAND, WIGGLY’S CORNED BEEF AND THE USUAL KING OF DIAMONDS FOOD MENU, LOTS OF GUINNESS AND SMITHWICK’S AND A GREAT TIME! SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, (not September 8) Doors open at 6:30PM, music starts at 7:00. for this fine event! BRING OUT YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS AND ENJOY THE EVENING WITH SONG AND DANCE! $5 COVER FOR ADULTS, CHILDREN FREE! The August newsletter did not contain information on our 90th Year Anniversary Council Picnic which was held on July 29. Burton Hollow Swim Club is where our event was held. We had a good turnout and many enjoyed barbequed burgers and hot dogs, salads and many other treats and refreshments! At the picnic, the 2018 George F. Monaghan Scholarship in Memory of Dan MacDonald was awarded to Jacob Stec, the grandson of longtime member LaVerne DiNatale. Jacob is a graduate of Divine Child High School and will be attending U of M Dearborn. He played football, ran track, was a member of the National Honor Society, and was a member of the Executive Board Student Council. Jacob volunteered at Leisure Club and Camp Able, an organization in support of the mentally impaired. He also leads a wonderful faith life. Congratulations and good luck Jacob! Go Blue! Thank you to all of the entrants for their effort and work in applying for this scholarship and sharing with the Scholarship Committee the reasons they are deserving of the scholarship. The judges agreed it was a very tough decision once again! If you didn’t win this year, try again next year. The August Council Meeting (7:45pm on the 3rd Tuesday of every month) was noteworthy for a couple of different reasons. Monaghan’s new Life Insurance Field Agent is Chris Battersby. He was accompanied by the K of C General Agent, Ron Sneller. They shared the reasons why all Catholic gentlemen should be properly insured and the different products that are available to us. They shared with us that the Knights of Columbus Life Insurance Company holds the highest ratings in the life insurance business as well as being honored as one of the most Ethical Companies. When Chris contacts you, please give him the respect he deserves as a Catholic gentleman looking out for yours and your family’s welfare and avail yourself of the products he so proudly represents. Paul St. Clair is Monaghan’s Membership/ Activation Director. If you know of a Catholic gentleman 18 years or older that is interested in joining the Knights or would just like some information, please have them contact Paul at 734-776-3412. Of course, there is always information about the Knights in the literature racks in the main lobby as well. Paul will be contacting you to update our database to include a good email address for you. Email is the most efficient means of communicating for the many officers and directors at Monaghan. We want to be more proactive and contact the membership about upcoming events and other important information. We have many First Degree Knights here at Monaghan. I would like to give all of these men an opportunity to experience the Second and Third Degree exemplification. Paul will be contacting you about this to coordinate a date that works for you! Feel free to contact Paul! Gene Suchyta, the Faithful Navigator of the Fourth Degree attended our Council meeting and informed us of the next Fourth Degree exemplification, Saturday, September 15 at DeCarlo’s on the Eastside. Please contact me if you are interested. Monday, September 24th is the date of the next blood drive here at Monaghan. Dan DiPonio has changed the hours to allow for later appointment times. 1:00pm – 7:00pm. Reserve your spot by calling 734-591-3237. The number one thing we are in short supply of are VOLUNTEERS for our many events. Pasta Night will be resuming the last Wednesday of the month, on September 26. On Pasta Nights we will need 6-8 volunteers to help with sales, running the food and bussing the tables. There will be a volunteer list posted on the corkboard in the lounge. Please sign up for a shift or two! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding the Council. Email:[email protected]. The Donne-Gals would like to thank the Knights for hosting a wonderful summer picnic on July 29th at Burton Hollow Swim Club. We enjoyed being a part of the celebration. We awarded our two Living Your Faith Scholarships to Jacky Bowling and Katy LeWalk whose father Larry LeWalk accepted in her absence (pictured below).

As the Fall approaches, we will end our summer break and resume monthly meetings. This is a perfect time to join our group! Please consider spending time with us in fellowship. It’s a great way to steal away a bit of time for yourself with friends while working towards good causes.

The Donne-Gals meet once per month on the 3rd Thursday of the month for fellowship and to discuss our next charitable endeavor. We occasionally have speakers join us to advocate for their causes, or an opportunity to broaden our experiences, not to mention just have fun! We do not meet over the summer. Our meetings will commence in September. We invite anyone interested in membership to contact Julie Maher at juliannmaher@gmail. com. Submitted by: Sharon Prieto, Donne Gal

COMING SOON

DO YOU HAVE YOUR TICKET?There are many ways to get your ticket.

1. Donate Blood2. Help on the Monaghan Blood Drive Team

3. Others

Many of us hear about donating blood and dismiss it, for various reasons: I’m on drugs, I’m to old, I’m afraid of needles, I have high blood pressure,... The

list is long.

But, none of those reasons is real concerning helping collect more Units of “life saving blood” by

being on the Blood Drive Team. Dan DiPonio chairs this project, but he currently only has a couple of Knights helping him. Run Our Drives He needs more help, in recruiting calls, in advertising the

Drives, in making reminder calls, and more. ALL of us can help with these things. Won’t you help on Dan’s committee, and get closer to getting Your

Ticket To Heaven? Call Dan Today at: 734-591-3237

Our next Drive will be: Monday, September 24th, 2018, from 1:00 till 7:00PM

PINT-FOR-A-PINTThe Monaghan Knights of Columbus Council #2690 will be having a Blood Drive featuring a Pint-For-A-Pint. Donors will be able to donate a pint of blood and get a coupon good for a pint of beer at Monaghan’s Hall.  What a deal; give blood, helping save some one’s life, and, be rewarded by getting a free pint of beer.  Due to rules and common sense, you’ll receive a coupon after donating which you’ll be able to redeem any day after the Drive, at the KofC Hall.   (Must be 21 or older to get a beer coupon)

So, give it up and then drink it up, at the next Monaghan Blood Drive, and Bring A Buddy.Monaghat Hall,19801 Farmington Road, North of 7 Mile, in Livonia
