BRICKTOBER Perth 2017 As the premier project of The Rotary Club of Ascot, the organising Committee gave an outline to the club members this week. As Chairman, Hugh introduced each subcommittee with the following reports presented:

Ann – Volunteers and Merchandise:

The new venue, Curtin Stadium, allows everything to be under cover and the one roof although merchandise and all vendors will be outside under the awning.

Rotarians will be assigned an area of responsibility and work with Volunteers to cover Entry and Ticket scanning, Wrist Bands and phone numbers to be put on kids, Brick Pit of loose Lego® for kids over age 3 years, monitoring of Exhibition Tables and Crowd Control, monitoring of Barriers, Competitions, People’s Choice Awards, other Interactive Zones like Remote controlled Trains etc and Merchandise sales and General Relief.

Ascot Rotarians to wear our Blue Bricktober / Ascot Rotary Shirts each day from Bump In on Friday to Bump Out on Sunday.

Rotarians and Volunteers are to use the rear undercover parking with closer, front area parking left for Ticket Holders.

Shifts start at 7:30am each day and changeover at Midday. Rotarians should be available at these times to coordinate Volunteers and then ensure they have breaks when time permits.

Stephen will be an Exhibitor during the event and all questions MUST be directed to PETER.

Evacuation Muster Point is on the far side of the Oval.

Volunteers Bags have been packed and will be handed out at their Induction on their first shift.

Further information will be forwarded to each Rotarian before next week.

Joanna – Competitions and Interactive Zone

Joanna and Liam will control area with help from Volunteers.

Prizes generously donated by Lego® this year. Printing now completed.

Competitions will include Build AND Dismantle this year reducing manpower requirements in area.

Each Exhibition site will be numbered to facilitate People Choice Awards.

We will have a Rotary International Booth this year. Please direct any queries to it.

We do not currently have an Ascot brochure and should consider this for next year.

Peter – Operations and Logistics

Curtin Stadium staff will set up the 350 tables required for the event before Bump In and will remove them after the event.

Bump In will require setting up barriers and unloading 20’ container and Bump Out the reverse. Additional manpower will be available to assist.

Exhibitors responsible for setting up their own displays after 12noon on Friday and removing them after the event.

Doors close at 4:15 each day.

Dianne – Partnerships and Vendors

Rotary’s part in Education

It’s Rotary Basic Education and Literacy Month and our Rotary Foundation

supports clubs around the world to participate in Literacy projects.

Literacy - the human right to be able to read & write - relates to peace,

gender equality, health, poverty eradication & democracy as reading and

learning is an effective weapon against intolerance and ignorance.

“A child who reads

We hear the Rae clan is growing!

Congratulations Fred and Norma

on the newest addition.

Letters from our Mailbox

Letter from Tracey Nelson of South Thornlie Primary in response to our donation of Bricktober PlayTubs last week.

Hello Stephen,

Thank you again for the invitation to the Rotary meeting on Tuesday morning.

It was lovey to meet some of the members and to hear about some of the fabulous work that they do. The breakfast was delicious too!

However, the most amazing thing was the donation of the Lego. I was blown away by the amount of Lego that was so very generously donated to our Lego club.

I took both tubs to the Lego club at South Thornlie Primary on Tuesday afternoon and the kids, parents and staff were thrilled. The donation has easily doubled the amount of Lego for the kids to play with. The sand coloured base plates, wheels/axles and mini figs were particularly appreciated.

Our acting Principle, Mrs Sarah Hill has extended an invitation for yourself, your President and/or another available Rotarian to come to a school assembly next term. We would like to formally acknowledge the donation and to allow the whole school to recognise the contribution made. …

Thank you again for the donation and all the hard work that you and your team put into Bricktober. Hoping that this year's event is a resounding success.

Yours sincerely,

Tracey
