A Message from the Principal Team

Dear Families

Fete Result: We are delighted to announce that our school fete has raised $7,040. This is an amazing result and we thank

everyone for their contribution. This money will be targeted towards the shade sail over the F-2 playground, being added to the

profit raised by PAFA in 2016. We are currently preparing a submission to the Wallan branch of the Bendigo Bank to see if we can

attract some additional funding for this project, as our planned fundraising from PAFA has been lower than we had hoped for in

2017. Also a late thank to Sharon Delaney and Duana Sharp who donated their time to face paint at the fete and also the students

who busked at the fete as the money raised from both of these events has been added to fete fundraising.

World Teachers’ Day: On Friday, we celebrated World Teachers’ Day at school assembly. We are extremely fortunate to have a

group of highly dedicated staff who go above and beyond for our students each and every day. Those staff at school on Friday

received a World Teachers’ Day certificate, a badge and a sticker from their classroom SRC representatives. Staff who were off

attending training courses will receive a certificate, sticker and badge on Monday. Thanks to Mr Fearn for your wonderful

certificate work! Two lovely platters of cakes were delivered to school by one of our mums Janine McKay on Friday morning as a

sign of her appreciation for the work our staff do. This was such a nice surprise and the treats were very much appreciated. As a

staff, we held a full staff morning tea on Monday to celebrate our amazing teaching staff. We are very fortunate!

Working Bee: The numbers were very small, but gee could they work! A huge thank you to AJ Russell, Amanda Russell,

Liam Russell, Pauline Bittles, Jacinta Robinson, Mathew Robinson, Colin Donohue, Elma O’Sullivan-Greene, Bret Stebbing,

Owen Macer, Gayani Ruwanpura, Yvette Curlis, Chris Tolevski and Chantal Tolevski who assisted us to complete the following

tasks:

Refill our sandpit

Fix the broken wire around our basketball court

Whipper snipper behind the portable classrooms on both blocks

Clean the block – trimming dangerous branches, collecting building rubbish,

raking broken branches and bark and popping it all onto three piles

Around 6:00 p.m. we then enjoyed a yummy sausage sizzle – thank you Amanda and Ros for cooking this as we were all pooped!

Our student helpers Mathew Robinson, Abby Miller, Liam Russell, Charli Russell, Noah Tolevski, Levi Tolevski and Hollie Tolevski

certainly enjoyed being the first students to play in the nice fresh sand just before we headed home.

Thank you, Wandong CFA: On Saturday, our Wandong CFA burnt off the piles of rubbish

we had created at the working bee. This was the last weekend for burn offs and we

sincerely thank them for assisting us to complete the clean-up of the block. We will now get

Michael, our mowing man, to come and give it a good mow before we have an “excursion to

the block”.

Woolworths Earn and Learn points: On Friday, we completed our order for our Earn and Learn points. Altogether we had

21,357 points to spend. A huge thank you to the families and community members that provided us with Woolworths tokens.

After discussion with our English and Mathematics coordinators, we have selected the following items which will arrive sometime

in term one:

English resources:

Two boxes of 20 purple levelled readers (levels …. to ….), two boxes of 20 silver levelled readers (levels …. to ….),

two boxes of 20 gold levelled readers (levels …. to ….) and magnetic handwriting class charts for teachers to use to

demonstrate and model writing

Mathematics resources:

Two boxes on 1000 unifix blocks, tub of spot dice and tub of decimal dice

Library:

Two large floor mats which feature games such as hopscotch and checkers

Sandplay:

Assorted scoop spades

Student leadership Day: On Monday, our grade six student leaders attended their final cluster student leadership day, joining student leaders from other local schools to listen to some amazing leaders in their fields. Over the course of the year, our students have visited four other schools and worked with our School Student Support Officer, Sharon Blackwell, to further develop and refine their leadership skills. They were once again amazing ambassadors for our school and enjoyed listening to Gary O’Brien (President of the Wallan Basketball Club), Broadford Secondary College students discussing their Anti-Bullying Program, Chris Brockwell (Wallan CFA) and Jane Marks (Vic Police Youth Resource Officer for the area).

A Message from the Principal Team…. (continued)

Kiss and Drop location: After lengthy discussions about Kiss and Drop at School Council last week, , we have decided to leave it

in Rail Street for the time being.

Melbourne Cup Weekend: School is on this Monday: A reminder to families that our school will be open this coming Monday

for business as usual.

Just a heads up – Oaks Day Dress up: Yes, it’s that time again when we all dress up like we are going to the races! On Thursday

of next week, we will hold our Oakes Day Dress up. Come as a lady or gent, a horse or a bookie. A fun parade will be held at

9:00 a.m. on the basketball court.

Parent information for grades for 2018: A reminder that this is due in writing to Mrs Cole by Friday 17th November. No late

information will be considered as we are on a very tight timeline.

Have a great week – Rhonda Cole
