Once when I used the excuse (I used regularly at that me of life),“ I am too busy” or “ I am just so busy”, my Dad caught me and responded “You’re only as busy as you book yourself!!” Like so much of the great wisdom I have received from my parents, (and have paid much more aenon too as I have children geng older), it really seemed like a reve- laon to me that day, that I was booking myself into using that excuse for everything. Everything….geng together with friends, being more acve with other important things in my life, family me, taking me to pray each day, geng the house- cleaning done, listening to my heart whispers, and so on. I was asked to be on the board of the L’Arche Community in Wolfville and I was also asked to come and help at the Nursing Home next door to where I lived. I knew I could sing a few songs with the residents, and could go to a few meengs on the board. I thought that could be my “contribuon” to volunteering and “doing my part” in helping others. And more importantly, it looked good on my resume. (I really thought this!! ) And so eve- ry Thursday night I walked over to the Nursing Home and sang for an hour and aended monthly Board meengs. Without the whole story, I can promise you that what happened in that 1st year of “doing my part” I realized that the residents of both the Nursing Home and the L’Arche Community were doing their part to tell me about “living a life” to be proud of, versus a life that looked good on my resume. Both experiences changed my life, my career and my family and set the path for us to be here in Amherst. This month take some me out of the business and spend me with someone who doesn’t have the ability to pay you back , be busy in love with the beauty of life and be busy with loved ones. Give thanks, be grateful and be busy in God’s work— for those rewards are eternal! Xo glenna

November 2nd : All Souls Day

All Souls Day November 2nd is a solemn celebration in the Roman Catholic Church commemorating all those who have died and now in Purgatory, being cleansed of their venial sins and the

temporal punishments for the mortal sins that they have con-fessed, and being made pure before entering into the presence of GOD in Heaven. Today, All Souls Day is paired with All Saints Day on November 1st, which celebrates all the faithful who are in Heaven. Every community usually has their own tradition of remembering decease family members or friends. Here at Holy Family, we put out the “The Book of Life” for the entire month of November, where the names of family and friends who have passed away are written, and included in special prayers each weekend at Mass. In other communities, November is the time of the year that many visit graves of the deceased loved ones to recognize their presence in our lives, and the hope and blessing of going home with GOD.

What can we do to help us in remembering loved ones?

1—Plant a Tree in Honor of a life loved.

2—Have a Mass said for the loved one in memory of them

3—Have children draw pictures of a loved one and then have a “special collection show” of the loved one and show the pic-tures that were drawn, sharing stories and memories.

4—Make special “picture” with special mementos of loved one.

November is upon us and it seems there has been so much that has happened in the 11 months of 2017, and yet sometimes it is hard

“Homelessness Awareness

Walk” Nov. 26 10:00 am

Joining with the many groups here

at Holy Family, Saint Vincent de Paul

will be taking us on a walk around

the community, focusing on KEY

AREAS of awareness for those who

are homeless or facing the prospect

of being homeless. This walk will

focus on key items about homelessness, to bring a deeper and

personal awareness of the struggles of those in need. Getting

closer in awareness, to those who do not go home to a warm,

safe, clean place is how this can change.. There is a lack of quali-

ty, quantity and affordable accommodations in our town and

surrounding area and there are people living in extremely poor

conditions. How can we as a community recognize this and then

start to find ways to be of service in this type of need from God’s

children. PLEDGE SHEETS on the Bulletin Board in the Gathering

Area. Pick one up, put on your sneakers and join us Sunday,

November 26th at 10:00 am.

Thank you to all who set up the Fabulous Displays

for the MINISTRY FAIR WEEKEND

YES CARDS—November 4/5th and 11/12th

Last weekend was our Ministry Fair, showcasing the gifts of our Holy Family family that serve our community and anyone in need. We had hoped to have more of a turnout at the Fair, however we passed out the YES Cards, to show ways that help you to help us! Some have YES Cards already returned, and we ask you to drop them in the collection baskets or bring to the office when you have completed yours.

On the next two weekends, we will have the YES cards available for those who have not completed one, or have not seen the new list of jobs that we are in need of volunteers. Is there any reason why you couldn’t find 1 hour/week to assist the commu-nity? Volunteers of all ages are needed. (Vacation Bible Camp “oldest camper” is 92 and makes a HUGE difference.)

These are a few of the Amazing Displays from our Ministry Fair Weekend! “Come on Board. Join us today in Holy Service!”

A Funny Thought: Timmy didn’t want to put his money in the offering plate Sunday morning, so his mother decided to use some hurried creative reasoning with him.

“You don’t want that money, honey,” she whispered in his ear. “Quick! Drop it in the plate. It’s tainted!”

Horrified, the little boy obeyed.

After a few seconds he whispered, “But, mommy, why was the money tainted? Was it dirty?

“Oh, no dear,” she replied. “It’s not really dirty. It just ‘taint yours, and it ‘taint mine,” she replied.

“It’s God’s.”

Article by Junno Arocho Esteves: Vatican City: Reporting on Pope Francis on October 15th, 2017

Like the Catholic Church’s newest saints, Christians are called to live their faith as a love story with

GOD who wants a relationship that is “more than that of devoted subjects with their King,” Pope

Francis said. Without a loving relationship with GOD, Christian life can become empty and “an impos-

sible ethic, a collection of rules and laws to obey for no good reason,” the Pope said during Mass

Oct.15 in St Peter’s Square. “This is the danger: a Christian life that becomes routine, content with

‘normality’, without drive or enthusiasm and with a short memory,” he said. At the beginning of the

Mass, Pope Francis proclaimed 35 new saints, including the “martyrs of Natal” in Brazil, a group of 30

priests, laymen, women and children who were killed in 1645 during a wave of anti-Catholic persecu-

tion; and the “Child Martyrs of Tlaxcala,’ three children who were among Mexico’s first native con-

verts and were killed for refusing to renounce the faith. Tapestries hung from the facade of St. Pe-

ter’s Basilica bearing images of the martyrs as well as pictures of Sts Angel 0da Acri, an Italian Capu-

chin priest known for his defense of the poor, and Faustino Miguez, a Spanish priest who started an

advanced school for girls at a time when such education was limited almost exclusively to boys. An

estimated 35,000 pilgrims– many of them from the new saints’ countries of origin– attended the

Mass. In his homily, Pope Francis reflected on the day’s Gospel reading from St. Matthew in which

Jesus recounts the parable of the wedding feast. Noting Jesus’ emphasis on the wedding guests, the Pope said that God “wants us,

He goes out to seek us and He invites us” to celebrate with Him. “For Him, it is not enough that we should do our duty and obey

His Laws,” Pope Francis said. “He desires a true communion of life with us, a relationship based on dialogue, trust and for-

giveness.” Despite constant rejection and indifference, GOD does not cancel the wedding feast but continues to invite Christians

to overcome “the whims of our peevish and lazy selves” and to imitate the

Church’s new saints who, he said, not only said YES to GOD’s invitation, but

wore “the wedding garment” of GOD’s Love. “The saints who were canonized

today, and especially the many martyrs, point the way, “ the Pope said. “The

robe they wore daily was the love of Jesus, the ‘mad’ love that loved us to the

end and offered His forgiveness and His robe to those who crucified Him.”
