My People, We are reading from Romans Chapter 9 about our relationship to the Jewish people. Too many Christians and

Americans do not respect the Jewish people. Bishop Malesic reached out to the local synagogue when the shootings happened in Pittsburgh. At the Second Vatican Council on October 28, 1965 all of the bishops wrote and signed Nostra Aetate: “Our Relation-ship to Other Religions.” They hold the Jewish people highest. They decry all persecutions. And they reiterate St. Paul: “theirs (the Jewish people) is the sonship and the glory and the covenants and the law and the worship and the promises; theirs are the fathers and from them come Christ our Savior.” Be good to the Jews for Christ’s sake. And when you hear that others hate them, remind those others to read Romans 9.

Blessings, Father McGuirk

AUG. 15-16, 2020 TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME

Gathering Song: 677 A Living Faith

Faith of our fathers, living still In spite of dungeon, fire, and sword; Oh, how our hearts beat high with joy Whene’er we hear that glorious word. Faith of our fathers, holy faith, We will be true to you till death. Faith of our mothers, daring faith, Your work for Christ is love revealed, Spreading God’s word from pole to pole, Making love known and freedom real. Faith of our mothers, holy faith, We will be true to you till death.

Gloria: (Recite)

Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father. Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, You take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; You take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; You are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

First Reading: Isaiah 56:1, 6-7

Resp. Psalm: Psalm 67 O God, O God, let all the nations praise you!

Second Reading: Romans 11:13-15, 29-32

Gospel Acclamation: Alleluia

Gospel: Matthew 15:21-28

Profession of Faith: Apostles’ Creed (Recite)

I believe in God, the Father almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord, (bow) who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pi-late, was crucified, died and was buried; he descended into hell; on the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.

Preparation of Gifts: 47 The Cry of the Poor

Refrain: The Lord hears the cry of the poor, Blessed be the Lord. I will bless the Lord at all times, with praise ever in my mouth. Let my soul glory in the Lord, who will

hear the cry of the poor. R. Let the lowly hear and be glad; the Lord listens to their pleas; and to hearts broken, God is near, who

will hear the cry of the poor. Words: Psalm 34:2-3, 6-7, 18-19, 23; John Foley, SJ. Music: John Foley, SJ © 1978, 1991, John B. Foley, SJ, and OCP. All rights reserved. Reprinted under ONE LICENSE #A-727215. All rights reserved.

Communion Song: 619 Let All Mortal Flesh Keep Silence

Let all mortal flesh keep silence, And with fear and trembling stand; Ponder nothing earthly minded, For with blessing in his hand Christ our God, to earth descending Comes, our homage to demand.

King of kings, yet born of Mary, As of old on earth he stood, Lord of lords in human vesture, In the Body and the Blood He will give to all the faithful His own self for heav’nly food. Words: Liturgy of St. James, 5th C.; para. by Gerard Moultrie, 1829-1885, alt. Music: PICARDY, 8 7 8 7 8 7; French carol; harm. by Richard Proulx, 1937-2010, © 1986, GIA Publications, Inc. Sending Forth: 663 Lord of All Hopefulness

Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy, Whose trust, every childlike, no cares could destroy, Be there at our waking, and give us, we pray, Your bliss in our hearts, Lord, at the break of the day.

Lord of all eagerness, Lord of all faith, Whose strong hands were skilled at the plane and the lathe, Be there at our labors, and give us, we pray, Your strength in our hearts, Lord, at the noon of the day. Calling all selfie-takers and designated family photographers!

We are announcing the Holy Cross Family Festival of Funny Fotos,

Featuring Favorite Photos of Corona Capers. We need your help to compile a gallery of photos capturing the capers committed by our parish families during the corona virus quarantine. This is a FUN-Raiser – if we raise some funds, that would be nice, but we just want to have some fun since we can’t have a Fall Food Festival this year. So while you were at home wondering what to do without a festival where you could frolic and feed yourself, maybe you took some photos of your summer of staying home and voluntarily avoiding visiting? Since we can’t see each other at the festival, we can see each other through our fun family photos.

These are the “categories” from A to Z: Awesome Adults; Beautiful Baby Boomers; Cute Kids; Darling Dads; Energetic Elders;

Friendly Families; “GREAT” Grandparents; Happy Halloweeners; Incredible Infants; Jolly Juveniles; Kind Kinfolk; Lazy Loungers; Magnificent Moms; Nice Neighbors; Official Organizations;

Playful Pets; Quarantined Queens & Kings; Rowdy Relatives; Smart Students; Talented Teens; Uncles/Aunts in Uniform; Virtual Vacationers; Wonderful Workers; eXuberant Gen Xers;

Youthful YouTubers; Zooming Zoomers:

You may submit photos for as many categories as you wish—or create a category of your own! Formal portraits will be accepted, but tasteful funny photos (think “America’s Funniest Home Videos”) that you took yourself are what we’re looking for. If you can submit the photos via email or online (Jpeg format), that would be preferable. If you send us an actual photo, please include an SASE, or we will be unable to return it. All we ask is a donation of at least $5.00 per photo to cover the cost of publication and one copy of the gallery for your family. No information other than your name (and maybe your funny caption) will be published. Who knows? You might even see the Familiar Friendly Faces of Father McGuirk and his Superstar Staff! If you don’t want to “show your face” you can wear a mask! Or you can just donate a few dollars toward the project anonymously. Donations can be made in memory or in honor of a loved one. Anyone who donates will get one copy of the publication. Extra copies will be available for a small fee to cover the cost of publication. Deadline for submission of photos or donations is November 1, 2020.

Call Maria if you need more info or have any questions.

Deadline: Sunday, Nov. , 2020 – Publication date: Nov. 28, 2020. Name: ______________________________________________ Phone ______________________________________________ Caption: (Optional) ____________________________________ ____________________________________________________ Donation: _______________ Extra copies: ____________

Remember to include a self-addressed, stamped envelope, if you would like us to return your photo.

Please note that all the photos will be similar in size. For example, if you send a 5x7, it will be the same size in the gallery as an 8x10 or wallet-size submission. Thank you!
