Enrollment boom at CCS
• CCS opens doors even wider– Competition for limited resources
• Unprepared students will struggle to enroll– Early application, FAFSA, etc.
– Your students need good information more than ever
![Page 9: Wchscr counselor workshop fall 2009 final](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070303/54979e58ac7959ff2d8b542c/html5/thumbnails/9.jpg)

For every 100 college-bound Spokane-area 2007 HS grads…
11 choose out-of-state universities4 choose WA private universities
52 choose community colleges33 choose WA public universities
![Page 11: Wchscr counselor workshop fall 2009 final](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070303/54979e58ac7959ff2d8b542c/html5/thumbnails/11.jpg)
For every 100 college-bound seniors……82 (45%) don’t choose college
![Page 12: Wchscr counselor workshop fall 2009 final](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070303/54979e58ac7959ff2d8b542c/html5/thumbnails/12.jpg)
CCS Outreach targets the “Middle 50%”
![Page 13: Wchscr counselor workshop fall 2009 final](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070303/54979e58ac7959ff2d8b542c/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
The Middle 50% tends to…
• …be low income & first generation• …be disproportionally students of color• …lack parental support (few helicopter
parents)• …lack fundamental college info (FAFSA,
deadlines, college-going vocabulary)• …underutilize “Opt-In” post-HS resources– Career centers, college fairs, parent nights,
lunchroom tables, etc.
![Page 14: Wchscr counselor workshop fall 2009 final](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070303/54979e58ac7959ff2d8b542c/html5/thumbnails/14.jpg)
Accessing the Middle 50%
• Classroom presentations: multiple, sequential, full-period– ‘Captive Audience’ not ‘Opt-In’
–Math 12, English 12, CWI, Senior Project, CTE
– Not AP classes
• How you can help: – Give me a teacher’s name
![Page 15: Wchscr counselor workshop fall 2009 final](https://reader035.vdocuments.site/reader035/viewer/2022070303/54979e58ac7959ff2d8b542c/html5/thumbnails/15.jpg)
CCS Outreach Presentation
• Worthwhile for any student, but focused on the Middle 50%
1. Benefits of college
2. Costs of college
3. Paying for college - FAFSA
