ABOUT THE YOTES

The College of Idaho Yotes (17-6, 13-2 CCC) are currently on a six game winning streak. This weekend they will be looking to avenge their loss to Eastern Oregon as they were their last loss since their win streak began. Their other loss in conference play was their third game against OIT, 58-61. Their last weekend out, the Yotes swept Northwest Christian and Corban, 65-56, 76-66 respectively. College of Idaho is currently ranked no. 11 in NAIA Div. 2 in offensive rebounds per game.

LAST TIME THEY MET...Jan. 11, 2013Caldwell, Idaho – The No. 8 Eastern Oregon University women’s basketball team (18-2, 9-0 CCC) defeated College of Idaho (11-6, 7-2 CCC) tonight 57-53 in a Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup. Eastern was led by Brooke Randall with 21 points and 3 assists. Kelsea Hurliman and Jorie Freeman finished with 13 and 9 points respectively. Felicity Jones led College of Idaho with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals. Laura Geis contributed with 12 points and 13 rebounds, and Chakala Carthen added 8 points and 10 rebounds. Randall led the way for the Mountaineers in the first half with 13 points shooting 4-of-8 from the field. Eastern opened the game with back to back threes by Randall and Hurliman, followed by a couple of lay-ins to give Eastern a 8-1 lead. EOU then gained its largest lead of 12 points after a basket by Taylor Riley midway through the half. Felicity Jones would then hit back to back jumpers and spark C of I as they cut the lead to one just before the half sending Eastern to the locker room up, 25-24. As a team EOU shot 41% (9-of-22) from the field and 36% (4-of-11) from behind the arc in the first half. C of I 29% (8-of-28) from the field and 10% (1-of-10) from behind the three point line. The Yotes came out and were the first to score in the second half, but the Mountaineers an-swered with a couple of quick jumpers by Randall and Bourn to go on a 7-0 run, 34-27 forc-ing C of I to a timeout. Hurliman came out of the time out and hit a three to open the lead to 10. The Yotes then battled back to take a one point lead after a three by Jones. Both teams would then exchange points as the game saw 6 different lead changes and 3 ties. A lay-in by Freeman with 1:05 left in the game gave EOU a 2 point lead. The lead forced C of I to foul with 9 seconds left where Hurliman connected making both free throws. The Yotes would then come up short on a three point shot and the Mountaineers held on for the win. Eastern finished the game shooting 44% (20-of-45) from the field and 36% (7-of-19) from downtown, as C of I shot 31% (20-of-63) from the field and just 12% (2-of-16) from behind the three point line.
