• Phase 1(2005 – 2009): HQ/global, regional and country activities– SEARO: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal

– WPRO: Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Viet Nam

• Led to:– all countries with practical WSP experience through pilots and training

– most countries developing/revising drinking‐water quality‐related policies including preparation of WSP scaling‐up strategies

• Phase 2(2010 – 2011): implementing WSPs at scale– SEARO: Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, Nepal

– WPRO: Cambodia, China, Lao PDR, Philippines, Viet Nam

• Objectives, largely achieved:– Increased WSP development and implementation

– WSPs an integral part of policies and institutional framework

– Resources mobilized to support improvements identified in WSPs

– Resources and tools developed to support WSP implementation

– The design of a Phase 3 proposal

–WPRO: Cambodia, Lao PDR, Mongolia, Pacific Islands, Philippines, Viet Nam (RO support to China and Malaysia)

• Master training/certification for regional cadre of experts for training, advice and review

• Impact assessment– On process, performance and socio‐economic well‐being

• Legacy– financing bodies keen to support WSP – tools, guidelines and training materials 

• Closer links between WSPs and wider WASH

• Model WSPs established– BAN:  3 (Chandpur, Shingra and Chapanaiwabganj) in process

– BHU:  Wangdue (urban) almost complete– NEP:  Amarapuri done and documented as Case Study – nine others have begun

– LAO:  Luangphabang– PHL:  Dasmarinas, Maynilad and Cebu– VNM: 7 pilots of Phase 1 and 2

• Regionally specific training urban/rural materials

• Master training and certification– develop skills of 10-20 regional experts as highly

competent trainers, advisers and ultimately auditors. List of candidates is being compiled.

– to develop a certification program similar to RABQSA in Australia to have expertise recognised across the region. A suitable certifying body is being sought

• Regional Centres of Excellence– A list of potential training institutes is being compiled
