Greenwaste

Composting and worm farming are great ways to reduce your waste. Around 50% of waste found in bins is biodegradable and can be diverted from landfill by composting or worm farming. Organic or bio-degradable waste disposed of in landfill can create greenhouse gasses with up to 25 times more global warming potential than CO2.

Why Recycle?Everything in our home has come from the environment in the form of a natural resource. Some resources are renewable (eg. timber) while others take millions of years to form (eg. oil). By recycling the items we already have, we reduce the need to strip further precious resources from the earth and reduce landfill.

E-waste recycling: kmc.nsw.gov.au/ewaste Did you know that you can deliver unwanted computers and televisions to nearby locations any time? No need to store items until you see an e-waste event advertised. Kimbriki Resource Recovery Centre (Kimbriki Road Ingleside/Terrey Hills) and Sita Australia (Wicks Road North Ryde and Crozier Road Belrose) both accept these items during normal hours free of charge.

Chemical disposal: kmc.nsw.gov.au/chemicals Chemical collections are organised and funded yearly in each council area by the EPA. Wait for Ku-ring-gai’s scheduled chemical collection or visit other Council chemical collections. If visiting other Council collections, always check first that they accept items from non-residents.

Illegal dumping: kmc.nsw.gov.au/dumping lllegal dumping can be obvious like greenwaste or furniture left in public places, or it can simply be adding cleanup waste to your neighbour’s pile. As well as being unsightly, it can take weeks to investigate and usually ends up costing the community. Please be on the lookout for illegal dumpers. This includes tree contractors dumping chipped greenwaste on public and private property.

Other recycling: recyclingnearyou.com.au Council recycling services are limited by costs and processing facilities.
