What you CAN place in your recycling bin:

» Clean rigid plastic: Food and drink containers, yoghurt pots, milk and juice bottles, rigid plastic containers, soft drink and water bottles.

» Clean paper and cardboard: Milk and juice cartons, magazines, newspapers, egg cartons, junk mail, cardboard boxes.

» Clean aluminium and steel: Food and drink cans, metal jar lids, bottle tops.

» Clean glass: Food and drink bottles, jars, broken glass, wine bottles, spirit bottles.

1 x car battery; and

1 x 5L container of engine oil (in the original container).

GENERAL WASTE BIN

No glass whole or broken in your general waste bin. Put all glass

whole or broken into your yellow lid recycling bin.

If you are unsure about what can be placed in the general waste bin call 9400 4255 or email [email protected] for advice.

To ensure waste trucks can empty your bins, there needs to be enough space between them and your bins should be clear from obstructions such as parked vehicles, trees and tree canopy, overhead powerlines and posts. And please remember:

» Bins need to be out by 6.00am;

» Keep the weight of the bin under 70kg; and

» Avoid over-filling to ensure the lids can close.

GREEN WASTE

GREEN WASTEThere are three different ways to recycle your green waste in the City. Use all three or choose what suits you best.

Place smaller loose green waste in this bin.

» Garden prunings» Tree loppings (less than 1.5m in length)» Palm leaves» Tree limbs, branches, small logs

(1.5m in length). Note: branches more than 150mm in diameter must be cut into 300mm lengths.

» All bulk green waste must be placed loose on the verge with no use of boxes, bags or containers.

» Non-green waste items will not be collected and could be classed as littering.

» All green waste will be shredded and mulched, therefore it cannot be contaminated with any other waste.

Drop off your green waste at the Wangara Greens Recycling Facility on weekends and public holidays. A valid City of Joondalup tipping voucher must be presented or charges will apply. Vouchers can be found on the back of this guide. Please note: refunds cannot be processed if you do not use a valid voucher.

No collection on Christmas Day 2020, New Years Day and Good Friday 2021. Bin collections will be on the Saturday (affecting Burns Beach, Joondalup, Kinross, Connolly, Currambine and Iluka residents).

All other public holiday collections will remain as normal: Australia Day, Labour Day, Easter Monday, Anzac Day, Western Australia Day, Queens Birthday.

» Do not place green waste in City parks, vacant blocks or on other people’s verges.

» Waste must be placed away from power domes, water meters, artificial turf and stencilled paving.

» Bulk green waste cannot be placed on verges any earlier than 10 days before the advertised date. Not following this requirement will result in a fine.

» Illegal dumping of rubbish should be reported to City Rangers on 1300 655 860.

Mulching your garden lowers evaporation and water requirements,

aids water dispersal and can help to reduce weeds. All trailers must

be covered by a tarpaulin and rope for collection.

» Tipping is $34.50 per (6x4) trailer load (up to 500kg).

» Mulch is $31.50 per cubic metre (6x4) trailer load.
