STEPHENSONS ELECTION MANIFESTO DIGEST Following the major political parties delivering their Election Manifestos in the lead up to the 2015 general election, Business Club members Stephenson's look at the direct impact on both employers and employees. General The Conservatives have committed to creating 3 million new apprenticeships and to help businesses create 2 million extra jobs over the next parliament. Labour have stated that it will implement a guaranteed apprenticeship for all school leav-ers who attain certain grades and "require any firm that gets a large government contract to offer apprenticeships". In addition, it will ensure a ban on zero-hours contracts deemed to be "exploitative". The Liberal Democrats have committed to pay a living wage set by an independ-ent review to workers in all central government departments and their agencies from April 2016 and to consult on allowing employees on zero-hours contracts to request a fixed contract. UKIP have made commitments to protect workers' rights, enforce the minimum wage, end the abuse of zero-hours contracts and to allow British businesses to choose to employ British workers first. However it is unclear whether that means it will abolish employment tribunal fees altogether or just vary the amounts. The Liberal Democrats have committed to review fees to ensure they are not a barrier to justice and the Green party has stat-ed that it will reduce employment tribunal fees to make them accessible to work-ers. What is interesting is the difference in opinion between the political parties where key employment issues are concerned. On 07 May 2015, we will wait with interest to see whether and how such measures are implemented and the significance of these proposals.

CHARNLEY WINS NATIONAL

On the 13th April, Wigan Warriors players collaborated with our official club sponsor and Business Club members Coral as each player and member of coaching staff was asked just who they were backing in one of the most famous steeplechases in the world.

Captain Sean O Loughlin took the advice of Junior Assistant Coach John Winder and backed AP Macoy’s ‘Shutthefrontdoor’ whilst Matty Smith went for Lond Windermore. However, it was Winger Josh Charnley who was successful as the 23 year old triumphed with Many Clouds. Before the race, Josh said "I like the sound of Many Clouds, so I'll probably have a punt on him. He's won a few times this year I think and hopefully he can do it again on Sat-urday."

The event witnessed great generosity from Coral as they pledged over £2500 to local charities having given five Wigan players a free £50 bet on the Grand National with any winnings being donated to a charity of the player's choice. Coral were soon to act though when realising the other players had failed with their tips giving £500 to the players to donate the charities of their choice.

Joining Jack, Willowbrook Hospice, Wigan Youth Zone, the Alzheimer's Society and Joseph's Goal will all now benefit from donations.

LOCALS OFFERED FREE CHECK TO AVOID FINANCIAL SHARK THREAT Local Top Rated Adviser and Business Club member James Collins from Cheshire Wealth Partnership in Wigan is issuing a warning to locals about the government's ground-breaking pension changes. The changes which will come in to effect this April have the potential to transform lives but, while originally heralded as progressive, warn-ing bells are now ringing.

James Collins a Top Rated Independent Financial Adviser (IFA) on VouchedFor.co.uk is so concerned about the impact of the changes on local savers that he is offering a free initial pension check to locals.

Comments James Collins: "Changing the UK pension system is long overdue and giving the over 55s control over how they spend their pensions savings is in theory a great step forward. If the right decisions are made retirees could enjoy much greater returns on their savings as well as having the freedom to withdraw lump sums for large one-off treats or expenses."

Continues James: "However since the pension change announcement last summer we've seen a significant increase in disreputable companies offering huge returns for dodgy investments. In short people are being, and will continue to be, scammed. My message is clear - seek professional advice before switching your pension."

IFAs aren't linked to any product or service provider as a result they're free to select the pension and investment options that best suit your needs from the whole of the market. In other words, they offer impartial advice which makes speaking to an IFA a great place to start.

If you're about to be affected by the pension changes why don't you take advantage of James's offer of a free initial pension check? A pension check is a free, no obligation introductory meeting which gives you the chance to talk to James about your current pension and future plans. If there is room for improvement James will let you know how they can help and the associated costs.
