Warragamba Public School Keeping in Touch Term 1 Week 3 15.02.2019 Principal Message Welcome back everyone. It has been an absolutely wonderful start to the year. All of the students have come back very settled and many of them have been excited to begin the year. We have welcomed a number of new families to our school which has been a pleasure and we have welcomed 54 new kindergarten students. We are sitting on an enrolment of 367 students which is 15 classes. We look forward to a wonderful year filled with lots of learning, fun and excitement to go along with that. Monday saw the beginning of the RFF program (Music & Library) and also Maths Groups in Primary. PIPs will begin in Week 5 once students have had the opportunity to audition for dance groups and choirs. We have had our primary, Meet the Teacher, sessions this week and we will be having our K-2 Meet the Teacher sessions next week. Please be sure to check bags for notes each day and keep an eye out on Skoolbag for important messages and notifications. Performance Groups This year there are a number of staff who are keen to run groups throughout the week. It is impossible to run them all during lunch and recess and/or PIPs time. The teachers met together to discuss when they would each like to do their groups. This year Stage 3 students will need to make a decision about whether they would like to do dance or choir as they are both during PIPs time. Those students who are keen to do both choir and dance will have to choose their 1 st preference however there may be opportunities for them to still be involved in their second preference but we are still looking at this. The groups at the moment are as follows; Group Teacher When Snr Dance Miss Chisholm PIPs Snr Choir Miss Foster PIPs Jnr Dance Miss Dimech PIPs Jnr Choir Mrs Patterson Lunch/Recess Boys Dance Group Mr Duncan Lunch/Recess Prep Choir Miss Clarke PIPs (Sem 1) Lunch/Recess (Sem 2) Prep Dance Mrs Casey Lunch/Recess (Sem 1) PIPs (Sem 2) Canteen 2019 Over the past year the canteen staff have been monitoring sales and have found that recess time between 1.30pm and 2.00pm is a very quiet time for the canteen. During Term 1, 2019 the canteen are going to trial opening at 8.30am and remaining open for crunch & sip, lunch orders and sales during the lunch break, but then closing at 12 noon. This will mean that the canteen will be closed during recess time. The canteen have said that on particularly hot days they will open to sell ice blocks. We are going to trial this and see how it goes. Just a reminder to check that the coins your child brings in are Australian coins as foreign coins cannot be banked by the canteen. Also, Canteen Helpers are needed for Thursdays and Fridays. If you can spare any time at all, please see Andrea at the Canteen. Thank you

Guitar Donation We would like to thank Natalie Saunders and family for the very kind donation of a student guitar complete with strap & case. Miss Foster was extremely thankful for this kind gesture. It will be added to our musical equipment for use as part of music lessons and performance groups. If anyone else has musical instruments that they don’t need any more please come up and speak to Miss Foster as donations are accepted. Award System & Behaviour Level System Please see below for an outline of our award and positive behaviour system. I understand that it is a little difficult to read so you may also like to come up to the office where a visual 3D version is available for you to look at. If you are still confused please come and see me. The students can usually explain it better than us We have A4 copies in the office

Welcome everyone back to the 2019 school year.

We have all settled in beautifully to our new classes and we all love being one year older!!! Year 2 are especially that little bit more excited as they only have one more year to go until they can play on the big playground and one more year to go until they can join PSSA sport with the other primary students!

On Thursday 31 January we welcomed 54 new Kindergarten students to our school. We were all so brave and very excited to begin our school journey. All our Kindergarten students have finished their Best Start Assessment with the Kindergarten teachers and all the students have been placed in their classes and class work has begun!

I was lucky enough to visit all the K-2 classes this week and was beyond proud of all the students as I watched them working hard during Morning Routine. Good on you K-2 students at Warragamba!

Parents please remember in the morning time, the K-2 concrete area outside the classrooms is out of bounds. Children can leave their bags outside the classrooms and then head to the South Playground where the teacher is on duty. Thanks for your support with this.

We are looking forward to meeting parents at our Meet the Teacher afternoon on Tuesday 19 February 2019.

The Kindergarten meeting will begin at 3:15 – 4:00pm in K/1K classroom. Year 1 and Year 2 meeting will begin at 4:00 – 4:45pm in 1D classroom.

Stage 2

The Stage 2 students have all settled in well to their new classes. The teachers have been getting to know all of the students and this week have started Reading Groups, Morning Routine and of course our Maths Groups. It was great to see so many parents attend the ’meet the teacher’ afternoon. We really appreciate you taking the time to meet all of us. We are looking forward to a great year!

Stage 3

Stage 3 and their teachers have had an excellent start to the year. Our teachers for Stage 3 are Miss Murphy, Miss Clarke and Mrs Patterson.

So far Stage 3 have decided upon the House captains and Vice Captains. Congratulations to all the recipients. We know you will perform your roles well.

Year 6 are getting prepared to go on the Marine Camp to Jervis Bay in the middle of March. This is an excellent excursion and the students will make some wonderful memories. Stay tuned for our adventures.

We are all participating in Footsteps and all the Stage 3 students had a great time and used lots of energy performing the dance routines.

Yesterday notes went home for the Year 6 shirts. As soon as we get the design sent to us, we will vote which design will be this year’s shirt. We are very excited about the shirts.

Student Medication

We can only administer Prescribed Medication. If a student requires medication while at school, there are a number of things that need to be managed. The medication must be:

Prescribed by a doctor and have appropriate written instructions. Forms can be collected from the front office.

Provided by the parent/caregiver in original container clearly labeled by the pharmacist and delivered to the front office.

School Security

If you see Trespassers in the School out of school hours we would appreciate a call to School Security on 1300 880 021. This is a 24 hour service. Thank you.
