Principals Message

We have just made it past the ½ way mark of the term. So much has already happened and there are still so many exciting things to come. All classes have settled well and the students have been working really well. We have seen our first two assemblies for the year and as part of those assemblies we handed out our new coloured merit awards – Red for a safety award, Green for a respect award, Blue for a learning award and Yellow for a social/citizenship award. These awards along with the light blue school merit awards can be traded in for Bronze, Silver and Gold awards.

“5” Award – Certificate (Bronze)

Made up of 5 of the following; K-2 – coloured rule awards , attendance awards,level 0 awards or class merit awards (blue).3-6 – coloured rule awards , attendance awards,level 0 awards or class merit awards (blue).

Students are responsible for collecting and keeping them at home. Each time students collect 5 awards they hand them in, in a clip lock bag (box in the office). Mrs Shepherd will stamp them and organise the “5” Award (Bronze) for the Monday assembly.

Step 2

“25” Award – Certificate (Silver)

Made up of 5x “Bronze” Awards Students are responsible for them. When students have 5x Bronze awards they hand them into the office (in the box). Mrs Shepherd will stamp and organise the “25” Award (Silver) and place in an assembly box ready for the next infants/primary assembly.

Step 3

“50” Award – Certificate (Gold)

Made Up of 2x “Silver” Awards Students are responsible for them. When students have 2x Silver awards they hand them into the office (in the box). Mrs Shepherd will stamp and organise the “50” Award (Gold) and place in an assembly box ready for the next infants/primary assembly.

“100” Award – Principal Award Medallion

Made up of 2x “Gold” Award Students are responsible for them. When students have 2x Gold awards they hand them into the office (in the box). Mrs Shepherd will stamp and organise the “100” Award and place in an assembly box ready for the next infants/primary assembly.

Principal Morning Tea – 1 per semester for students who have achieved this level within that semester.

Class Merit Awards Small coloured and/or blue awards that can be handed out for immediate purposes. They can be given out by RFF, RR & LaST teachers too.

* This system continues on throughout their primary school years.

New students to the school will enter into the system on a pro rata number which all students started on back in 2016. The number varies depending on the grade. This is to ensure that every student has the same opportunities to make it to the magic “100” before leaving Yr 6.

Maths groups are going very well and students are enjoying their PIPs groups on a Thursday afternoon. We have welcomed some more new students since the last newsletter which is wonderful. We currently have 368 students enrolled at the school which is more than we have had for the past two years. We will be taking Kindergarten 2019 enrolments from early term 2. We have already had a few parents asking which, is a positive sign for the school. I’m looking forward to all of the great things that are coming up this year and I invite our parents/carers and the community to get involved as much as you can. Congratulations to Luke C who is progressing onto the Regional Swimming Carnival next week. Luke came 2nd in the boys 9yrs freestyle and he placed third overall in backstroke and butterfly. What an amazing achievement. We wish him all the very best for the carnival and look forward to hearing how he goes. Parent Info sessions:

1. Next Wednesday 14 March @ 3.20pm – Get Reading Right with Justin. This is a session for parents to come along and find out about the school wide spelling program that we started in 2017 and to also find out how you can help your child/ren at home. Justin works with the school by providing teacher professional learning and also works in classrooms presenting dem lessons and observing our teachers and how they deliver the program in their classrooms.

2. Speech Info session for parents – Kindergarten room – We have engaged the work of a Speech Pathologist from One Stop Allied Health to work in our school every Tuesday from this week through to the end of Term 2

this year. To begin with the speech pathologist will be working with Kindergarten and then will progress to Year 1. As part of that Erin, the Speech Pathologist will be running a parent workshop on Tuesday 27 March at 3pm. Further details will be communicated closer to the date.

Keep an eye on school bags for notes coming home and information pushed out through skoolbag. Mrs Shepherd Playground Expectations Your children may have come home and talked to you about conversations we have been having with all students about playground expectations. We have been talking extensively to the students about playground rules and the expected behaviour. This was necessary due to the fact that we noticed towards the end of last year we had a number of playground incidents due to students running on the concrete and ball games. As part of those discussions we have also been trying very hard to teach the students about the new rule of taking bags to the playground after the 8.30am bell.

If students arrive before 8.30am (this is not encouraged) then bags can be dropped at rooms.

If students arrive after 8.30am they must take their bags to the playground with them. This stops students hanging around in unsupervised areas, especially up around the primary classrooms and the Yr 2 rooms. Staff often have meetings in the morning or are running around preparing for their day. The teacher on duty is in South Playground therefore students need to go straight down there. This comes from a child safety point of view. If students are out of sight then accidents can happen. Please support us with this by discussing this with your child/ren at home Contact details

Parental Online Payments – POP

It is possible for parents to make online payments to the school for amounts owing for students via a secure payment page hosted by Westpac. Payments can be made using either a Visa or MasterCard credit or debit card. The payment page is accessed from the front page of the Schools Website (NOT THE SKOOLBAG APP) by selecting, $ Make a payment.

You have the ability to check and change any details of the payment before the payment is processed.

Receipts can be emailed and/or printed.

Details of the payments are passed daily to the school where they will be receipted against your child’s account. Please supply the receipt number on the permission note required for the event.

Cash and cheque payments will still be accepted.

Please note that SCHOOL CONTRIBUTION and PURCHASING OF UNIFORMS can only be paid by cash or cheque to WARRAGAMBA P&C.

Warragamba P&C have sent a note home this week regarding the Giant Easter Raffle. Raffle tickets will be sent home to each family soon.

School Staff Car Park

Please ensure that the entrance to the school car park is kept clear at all times. This is a safety issue for all staff, students and the whole school community.

WOLLONDILLY REDBACKS JUNIOR AFL CLUB
