Season 3 of War-Torn Alliances puts players deep in the Thornwood, a thick forest of drooping willows, stout oaks, massive poplars, and a multitude of fallen dead trees. The Thornwood is also home to Warjack Road, infamous for its dozens of destroyed ’jack carapaces from the Thornwood War. Countless skirmishes between Khador, Cygnar, and others have been waged here. Will your forces reign triumphant, or will the bodies of your troops and the wreckage of your warjacks join the countless fallen in the Thornwood? Test your mettle in Domination, survive a massive sinkhole in Hellhole Revisited, or fight to the death in Font of Power. Victory is within your grasp! ®

ScenarioSPlayers can randomly select a scenario for one-on-one games before each game by rolling 2d6 and then picking the corresponding scenario from the table in the War-Torn Alliances rules document. Scenarios suitable for team games will be noted and can be randomly selected by rolling a d6.

For Unbound games, see p. 56 in No Quarter Magazine #37 for how to randomly determine scenarios for one-on-one and multiplayer games.

thornwood 1 Font oF power

Summary: At the center of an ancient glade rests an enigmatic stone. Whoever controls the stone controls the tide of battle.

Place four 5˝ forest templates and one 40 mm base (the font of power) as shown in the diagram below.

The font of power is an obstruction.

Players cannot place additional terrain within 3˝ of any other terrain feature.

Special rUleSWhile a warcaster or warlock is in base-to-base contact with the font of power, all friendly models in his control area gain Pathfinder and Hunter.

Each turn, beginning on the second player’s second turn, a player scores 1 control point if his warcaster or warlock is in base-to-base contact with the font of power and no enemy models are within 4˝ of the font of power.

Victory conditionSA player wins the game when has 3 or more control points and has more control points than his opponent at the end of a turn. A player also wins when has the only warcasters/warlocks remaining in play.

thornwood 2 hellhole reViSited

(teaM)Summary: As the battle rages, a dangerous sinkhole widens at the center of the battlefield as the ground beneath the Thornwood begins to give way.

Before the start of the game, divide the table in half with a centerline running east to west. Mark a point at the center of the table and center a 5˝ AOE template on that point. This template is the center of the sinkhole.

Special rUleSStarting on the first turn, at the beginning of each turn the sinkhole grows outward 1˝ from the edge of the AOE template. Each model with more than half of its base overlapping the edge of the sinkhole is removed from play. When the edge of the sinkhole overlaps more than half of a terrain feature, remove that terrain feature (and any models in it) from play. A model with Flight can pass over the sinkhole if there is enough room for it to end its movement without more than half of its base overlapping the edge of the sinkhole. Models cannot be placed in the sinkhole. Models can be pushed, slammed, or thrown into the sinkhole.

Starting at the end of the second player’s second turn, a player controls the battlefield if he has one or more models completely within his opponent’s half of the table and his opponent has no models completely within the friendly half. Ignore wrecked or inert warjacks, wild warbeasts, and fleeing models when checking for control.

Victory conditionSA player wins when he ends his turn in control of the battlefield. A player also wins when he has the only warcasters/warlocks remaining in play.

thornwood 3 doMination

Summary: Opposing armies clash in a boulder-strewn mountain pass. Victory is granted to the army that repels the invading forces—or to the attacking army that grinds the defenders into oblivion.

Before the start of the game, divide the table in half with a 23˝ centerline running east to west. Place two 15˝ x 6˝ mountain wall templates centered on the outer portions of the centerline. The control zone is the 18˝ x 24˝ area between the mountain walls where control points can be scored. The mountain walls are obstructions.

Beginning with the first player, players then take turns placing three large-based boulder obstructions. Boulders must be placed in the control zone. They cannot be placed in deployment zones and must be at least 3˝ away from deployment zones, mountain walls, and other boulders.

Special rUleSThe large-based boulders follow all rules for obstructions as defined on p. 87 of WARMACHINE: Prime Mk II or p. 89 of HORDES: Primal Mk II except as follows:

• Boulders can be targeted by attacks as if they were stationary models (but cannot be damaged, destroyed, or removed from play).

• Boulders can be slammed or thrown as if they were large-based models with STR 8.

Victory conditionSBeginning on the first player’s second turn, a player gains 1 control point at the end of his opponent’s turn if he has one or more warlocks/warcasters or light or heavy warbeasts/warjacks in play that have completely crossed the centerline of the control zone. The first player to earn 2 control points wins the game. A player also wins the game when he has the only remaining warlocks/warcasters in play.
