NEW DELHI, Feb 17:
Days after the Rs 11,400crore fraud at PNB shook thecountry, private sector CityUnion Bank today said it suf-fered three fraudulent remit-tances of nearly USD 2 million(about Rs 12.8 crore).
Just like the fraud at PunjabNational Bank (PNB), noentries of remittances weremade in the ledgers of CityUnion Bank and transfers werepushed through the SWIFTfinancial platform.
“During our reconciliationprocess on February 7, it wasfound out that 3 fraudulent remit-tances had gone through ourSWIFT system to our corespon-dent banks which were not initiat-ed from our bank’s end. We imme-diately alerted the correspondentbanks to recall the funds,” CityUnion Bank said in a regulatoryfiling on stock exchanges.
Of the 3 fraudulent remittance,one remittance was made throughStandard Chartered Bank, NewYork, to a Dubai based bank forUSD 5,00,000 which was blockedimmediately and was returned toCity Union Bank, it said.(PTI)
SHIMLA, Feb 17:
Himachal Pradesh Governmenttoday decided to hold walk-ininterviews for doctors to fill 200vacant posts of medical officers(MBBS) in Health and FamilyDepartment on contractual basis.
According to an officialrelease, the step is taken to meetthe shortage of doctors particu-larly in rural and far flung areas.
The Cabinet meeting presidedover by Chief Minister Jai RamThakur also decided to amend thepolicy on tendering bond moneyfor MBBS doctors who pursuehigher courses, MD/MS degree ordiploma, super specialty - -DM/MCH courses and DNBcourses --, Master Courses withinand outside the state.
It will be a major relief forMBBS doctors undergoing PGcourses who were facing hardshipin obtaining bank guarantees fortheir courses, the release said.
It also approved deploymentof two medical physicists andfour radiotherapist technicianson outsource basis atGovernment Medical College,Tanda, to operationalise thesophisticated cancer treatmentequipment available there.
The Cabinet also decided toprocure four pulses namely DalChanna, Urad Sabut, MoongSabut and Malka from National
Co-operative ConsumersFederation of India Ltd. (NCCF)under State Subsidized Schemefor procurement and distributionof pulses by revising the existingpolicy, provisions and method ofprocurement of pulses.
HP State Civil SuppliesCorporation Ltd and NCCF willexecute the MoU in this respect. Itwould help save Rs 2.63 crore permonth only on account of pur-chase of pulses, the release said.
The Cabinet gave itsapproval to strengthen HPForest Ecosystem ClimateProofing Project being imple-mented in Chamba and Kangradistricts with the assistancefrom the KFW DevelopmentBank Germany. This projectwould cover 600 panchayats forminimizing and mitigating thenegative impacts of climatechange by increasing biodiver-sity and sustained income inrural areas through sustainablemanagement of forest resources.
The Rawat Cabinet gave itsnod to upgrade CommunityHealth Centre, Bagsaid, to 50 bedCivil Hospital in Mandi districtalong-with creation of 29 posts ofvarious categories in the hospital.The Cabinet approved upgradingof Civil Hospital, Ani, in Kulludistrict to 100 bed along with cre-ation of 26 new posts of differentcategories.
