Four Types Human Body Tissues

Epithelial tissueConnective tissueNervous tissueMuscle tissue

Muscle TissueMuscle tissue is a soft tissue that composes muscles in animal bodies, and gives rise to muscles' ability to contract.Muscles have several main functions, including locomotion, heat production, structural support and muscle contractions. Muscles are dense and account for nearly 40 percent of the body's weight.

Muscle Tissue TypesThere are three major types of muscle tissueCardiac Muscle: joined to one another by intercalated discs which allow the synchronization of the heart beat.Skeletal Muscle: attached to bones by tendons, is associated with the body's voluntary movements.Visceral (Smooth) Muscle: controlling movements of the body.

Connective Tissue

Connective tissue supports, connects, or separates different types of tissues and organs in the body.Fibroblasts are the cells responsible for the production of some CT.

Connective Tissue TypeThere 3 types of connective tissue.AreolarAdiposeBone tissueCartilage tissueFibrousHemopoietic tissueBlood tissueEX: Areolar: fibrous connective tissue, loosely packed, to hold tissue layers together

Nervous Tissue

Nervous tissue is made up of different types of nerve cells, all of which have an axon.Functions of the nervous system are sensory input, integration, control of muscles and glands, homeostasis, and mental activity. The tissue located in the brain and spinal cord consists of both gray and white matter.

Epithelial Tissue

Epithelial tissue covers the whole surface of the body.It is made up of cells closely packed and ranged in one or more layers. It protects us from the outside world - skinAbsorbs – stomach and intestinal lining (gut)Filters – the kidneySecretes – forms glands

Epithelial TissueBy cell arrangementSimple epithelium - single layer of cells (usually for absorption and filtration)Stratified epithelium - stacked up cell layers (protection from abrasion - mouth, skin.)EX: Skin, stomach, and intestinal lining.
