Next time you are at Walt Morey, I hope you will notice the beautiful red tulips blooming in our roundabout. If you take a closer look, you may even notice that they are planted in the shape of an M for Morey! Thank you to PALS for donating the bulbs last Fall. They sure brighten our school! For those of you who have not yet met our new assistant principal, please allow me the opportunity to introduce Valorie Spearman. Valorie joins us from Beaverton School District where she taught English Language Development for the past 12 years. Valorie’s experience working with English language learners, as well as her commitment to equity for minority students, are two of the reasons I am most excited to work with her. In addition, her ability to hit the ground running after Mr. Ibarra returned to the high school mid-year has helped to ensure a very smooth transition for students and staff. We are very fortunate to have her on our team. There are two fun events planned this month to celebrate our top student salespeople in our Spring Fundraiser. On April 14th, students who sold more than 15 items will have a limo ride up to Godfather’s Pizza for a special luncheon. Each of these students can bring one friend. Additionally, any student who sold at least 5 items will be invited to a Kona Ice party on April 28. Thank you to these students and their families for your work in supporting our school. We appreciate you! Finally, I want to talk about end of year 8th Grade celebrations because June will be here before you know it! At the end of the year, we celebrate our 8th graders in three big events: the 8th Grade Recognition evening awards ceremony, the all school assembly, and the 8th grade picnic. All 8th grade students can participate in the all school assembly and the 8th grade picnic. However, the evening recognition ceremony is a privilege that must be earned. To attend 8th Grade Recognition, students must have a 2.0 GPA, maintain 90% attendance, and cannot have any out-of-school suspensions. Letters to families of students who are in danger of not participating will be sent home in early April. However, if you have questions about whether your child is eligible, please don’t hesitate to call. I will be happy to discuss it with you. Sincerely, Tanya Pruett Principal

Estimadas Familias Mustang,

Gracias a

presentar a Valorie Spearman.

Sinceramente,

Tanya Pruett

Directora de escuela

From Your Library

Author Brandon Mull, will visit Walt Morey on Monday, April 17th during 5th period, 11:45 AM- 12:15. Sixth grade classes have been chosen to participate in the visit. His presentation will be: Imagination can take you places and how reading and creativity can build imagination. He will also discuss Dragonwatch, the sequel to Fablehaven.

The Walt Morey Library has multiple copies of the Fablehaven

series and copies of his new book, Dragonwatch, will be available

soon.

If students want to purchase Mr. Mull’s books order forms will be

available before Spring Break. Stickers bookmarks and buttons will

be available before the visit.

Fablehaven is about siblings Seth and Kendra Sorenson who find out their grandfather and

grandmother run Fablehaven, one of the last places mythical creatures can live in peace. In the

long-awaited sequel, Dragonwatch, the dragons who have been kept at the dragon sanctuaries no

longer consider them safe havens, but prisons and they want their freedom. The dragons are no

longer our allies. As Kendra and Seth confront this new danger, they must draw upon all their

skills, talents, and knowledge as only they have the ability to function together as a powerful

dragon tamer. Together they must battle against forces with superior supernatural powers and

breathtaking magical abilities. How will the epic dragon showdown end? Will dragons overthrow

humans and change the world as we know it?

Brandon Mull also spearheaded a seven-book series called Spirit Animals. Each book is written by

a different author, but he was given the charge to create the fantasy world where the characters will

live, and all the books will be based. The first installment, written by Brandon, is called Wild Born

and was released in September 2013.
