COMPETITIVE EVENTS Skill Demonstration Events occur at the National Cluster Meetings in November ONLY. Check Fast Facts for the Skill Demonstration Events to be offered this year. Check out information on these events in the Competitive Events Guide. There is NO CHANGE IN DRESS CODE FOR STAR EVENTS FOR 2018-19. On page 85 of the new Competitive Events Guide under Dress Code it states: For participation in competition, follow event specifications for dress, and wear appropriate clothing for the nature of the presentation. There are no new STAR Events this year. The 2018-19 Guide is available for you to download on the Affiliation website. You will have access through November 1. After November 1, only affiliated Chapters will have access to the Guide. Please make sure you are using the current guide. Washington follows the National Competitive Events Guide. We will put out a list of minor changes to the Competitive Events Guide in our Washington State STAR Events Newsletter in November. AFFILIATION Some of you are ahead of the game and have started the Affiliation process. I have posted the new Affiliation Instructions and the new tutorial video on our website under Affiliation on the Washington FCCLA website. Please pull up the Affiliation Instructions and take a minute to view the tutorial. You will also find both these resources under FAQ on your Affiliation Portal. Go to: https://affiliation.registermychapter.com/fccla# You have an option to make an adviser “Inactive”. If you are a one adviser school, you will not see this option. Your first step should be to graduate your 2018 Senior Members. Please graduate them to “Alumni & Associates” whether or not you think they will actually join as alumni. Then make sure to “Bulk Edit”, you CAN drop students at your initial affiliation and check for duplicate members. After your initial affiliation, you will NOT be able to drop a submitted student. If you have changed schools, you will have to contact me, Kay Niemi at [email protected] for assistance. I will need to make you “inactive” at your former school in order to put you in as an adviser at your new school. The state does not have an Adviser GPS system that knows where you are at all times – you will need to tell us! If you know of an adviser that has moved to another school, and have a new adviser in their place, let us know that as well. A couple of reminders:

• You can affiliate with less than 12 members – Nationals will charge you for 12 and you will have a credit until you enter 12 members’ names. If you don’t have 12, then you just pay for 12.

• Members are NOT affiliated until actual money is received at Nationals.

• With STAR Events in JANUARY, DON’T WAIT TO AFFILIATE. Start the process now to make sure your district has paid Nationals by December to avoid last minute panic!! Don’t put extra stress on yourselves during the holidays.

• Affiliate each chapter member in the STAR Events category in which they would compete, if they were to compete in STAR Events. (i.e., “Comprehensive”, “Occupational”)

New Chapters If you are a new chapter and have not affiliated before, Nationals will notify me to approve your chapter as a new chapter once you begin the process. I will do that as quickly as I receive their notice. You will then be able to enter your members. Forgot your Password? If you affiliated last year, and you have forgotten your password, use the Forgot Password link on the home page of the affiliation website. If you are new to your school, “Forgot Password” will not work for you. Please contact Kay Niemi at [email protected] for assistance. Parental Consent Forms Keep Parental Consent Forms for members under age 13 in your possession Membership Kits Membership Kits were sent out to all chapters that affiliated last year. New chapters will receive a Membership Kit once they affiliate this year. NEW FROM NATIONALS: ADVISER MANUAL

GO FOR THE RED Go for the Red is the National Membership Campaign. Please take a look at the National website for Go For The Red incentives for your chapter and chapter members. Chiawana High School was a 2018 National Silver Level Award Winner! Congratulations Chiawana!! Check out Go for the Red at fcclainc.org and gain National Recognition.
