Dear Friendship Families, I hope you are having a very happy new year! The students resumed their studies last week and there is much ancipaon for the upcom- ing events throughout the winter and spring terms. Our next event, on Saturday, January 17 at 1 p.m., is the “Friendship Family Movie Manee” acvity where we will watch Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted at the Warch Cam- pus Center Cinema. Popcorn, movie candy, and juice will be pro- vided. If you do plan to go, please let your student(s) know so they can plan to meet you there. No RSVP is required. Two other very large events going on soon are the annual Lunar New Year party (2/21) and the Lawrence Interna- onal Cabaret (4/11 and 4/12). These two events are some of the most excing of the year and our students work hard to make the events both educaonal and cul- turally interesng. The Lunar New Year party on Sat- urday, February 21 will start at 7 p.m. with a show featuring East Asian dance performances by guest troupes, followed by a cul- tural expo with many acvies and games presented by various stu- dent groups at Lawrence including Asia-A, Chinese Student Associa- on, Cultural Food Club, Korean Culture Club, Lawrence Interna- onal, study abroad returnees, Vietnamese students, and more! There will also be light hors d’oeu- vres and refreshments available. This event is free and open to the public. No cket or RSVP is neces- sary and it is a great event for chil- dren of all ages as well as adults! The 39 th annual Cabaret will be held this year! This fantasc inter- naonal variety show is truly a Lawrence instuon and not to be missed. This year, two perfor- mances will be held at the Stans- bury Theatre on Lawrence’s Cam- pus. Dear Friendship Families,

I hope you are having a very happy new year! The students resumed their studies last week and there is much anticipation for the upcom-ing events throughout the winter and spring terms. “Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted” at the Warch Cinema. We hope your family and student can join us. If your student is unable to join us, your family is still welcome! This event is free and open to the public.

Lunar New Year Celebration—Saturday, February 21: Please join us for the annual LNY celebration at Esch-Hurvis in the Warch Campus Center. We will have live guest performances (7p.m.) and a cul-tural expo facilitated by the students will follow. This event is free and open to the public. Feel free to spread the word! blah Lawrence International Cabaret—April 11 and 12: An annual show featuring a diverse array of in-ternational dances, instrumental and vocal performances, and a fashion show prepared by Lawrence students held at Stansbury Theater. An international Cabaret dinner will follow the event. Both events will be ticketed. On November 1st, the student organization “Lawrence Interna-tional” held its annual Ethnic Dinner at the Somerset Room at the WCC. This year’s theme was the Mexican celebration of “Día de los Muertos” or “Day of the Dead”. Bon Appetit cooked a mix of Latin American food such as rice and beans, horchata, yucca, and many more. Though its exact history is a little bit muddled, Valentine’s Day is generally

celebrated around the world as a day of love, companionship and in some

countries, a day of simple friendship. Some send out handmade cards, choc-

olates or candies as a way of showing affection and care. Typically, restau-

rants and wedding planners are also very busy around this time of the year!
