Roel's Je�a is the perfect embodiment of not only its owner's ethos, but the whole movement behind keeping things simple in all things automo�ve. With just 55bhp when it was new, the normally aspirated 1.6 diesel is never going to set any pulses racing, but with a car as simple and stunning as this, it doesn't need to.

Finished in its factory Mexico Beige, the booted Golf is as clean as the day it was born, back in 1983. Roel wanted a Je�a over a Golf purely as it had more space for him to carry things in. He's a big lover of the outdoors, and likes to use his Je�a on his adventures-this is no show queen that only comes out on sunny days.

Modifica�on wise, the list is short and concise. The car is sta�c, riding on AP coilovers, and it's refreshing to see a car that isn't scraping along, destroying itself in the process. Wheels wise, Roel opted for the �meless and u�erly sublime Zender Turbos, in 7x15”, and fully polished. A bevvy of chrome accents, such as fuel filler cap and door handles, compliment the look.

We're massive fans of Roel's car, and it really is the perfect example, showing that you don't need to throw a London banker's bonus at a car to make it drool worthy.

Mk1 Je�as weren't exactly everywhere when they were new, and picking one up today is no mean feat. Almost all are in enthusiasts' hands now, which has saved a fair few from ro�ng away, but even s�ll they like a bit of �n worm. You can pick up a decent running project for about £3.5k, although a pris�ne example will set you black closer to £10k, and with the value of Mk1 Golfs going stratospheric, the Je�a can't be far behind it.
